Looks like I'll be doing a website for a larger company...has about 50 email accounts. i also have a Hostgator reseller account.
My question is...what on earth do I need to do to transfer the email accounts...keeping everything in tact so they don't lose their existing emails, etc?

Thanks!

Brandon

You only want the emails and not the rest of the content? Do the email accounts already exist on the new cPanel machine? Do you have root SSH access to both of the servers?

Oh man guys...you are asking questions that I don't have an answer to...but can find out next week.
My guess...I know I heard the marketing contact saying something about an IT department. so, I'm thinking they have their own server which may handle the email. I'm fine keeping their hosting the same.
I was just looking to update their website to a wordpress based site, and don't want to disturb their existing email accounts.

I'm thinking that's handled within their domain registrar? as to the pointing of the mail server...so then I'd just need to install the wordpress onto their exisiting hosting or server, or something.
    Thanks,
    Brandon

Is part of your contract to move their hosting to your reseller account at Hostgator? If they are staying with the same hosting then you don't need to worry, you can just install your new WP site onto their existing host.

If they are moving hosting to you, then you may need to do some configuration, depending on whether or not they run their own mail server. Whoever is the technical contact for their domain will need to update the nameservers if you are moving them onto your hosting. I would suggest speaking with their IT department to see if they have their own mailserver. After that, I suggest you speak to support at Hostgator to help walk you through the process for migrating them.

If they have 50 email accounts then I hope for your sake they're not moving hosts and you can just keep them on their existing hosting.

thanks everyone for the inputs...yeah...think the best will be to just use their existing hosting, etc...some people like me just like to grab every nickel I can.

Thanks for all the great feedback.

To detect out if their e-mail provider will allow for we to forward their messages to another account for example, if we want to forward their regular e-mail messages to a Web-based account that we can access while journeying.
