So there are quite a few sites that when I click on their RSS feed icon, the next thing I see is a page that looks like the code below. How can I use this to get to an RSS feed or is this just the site owners negligence?

This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it. The document tree is shown below.

It means your browser doesn't know how to handle the file. It worked for me in ie9 and FF3.6. What browser are you using?

If you got a older browser you may have a problem. Make sure to keep your browser up to date.

Now, to be honest RSS feeds are not for your eyes

I mean they were not invented for humans to look at them but for machines (i.e. feed readers) to display them, to use them.

May I ask why are you trying to see them? Just curious...

RSS Feeds are so people can see what kind of updates have been made to a site provided the developer updates the RSS Feed.

A RSS feed is basically a news feed for people to see what is new in the way of content on a website. So even though provided they are not to be visually interesting, they still are meant to be viewed.

ok, yes, I know what an RSS feed is and what it should do, I just don't understand why I see all the code vs when I click on, say, a Feedburner rss feed where I actually get a subscription option. I use an updated version of Chrome, I'll check to see if that's the culprit.

Miles, the "normal" look of the feeds (should I say, for the naked feeds? LOL) is exactly the way you were complaining about. That's how they should be in order to work. That's the normal view.

Anything else, be it feedburner or through a plugin is NOT the original form of the feeds! It is via a feedreader or a special application that makes it more human-friendly. The human eyes friendly version is the "abnormal view"...

    Glad you sorted it out.
