Newbie question on html

I have done other sites before with a similar structure, just a basic sales page. But with this new one I started it is not working right. First I set up everything on my computer than upload it to my hostgator account. But when I go to see if everything is alright I notice that header and footer are a little offset from the main body of the body page. Any suggestions on how to align everything up? I have numerous webpages this way but this is the first time this has happened.
