wp 3.5 issue and question about deactivating all plugins

Many peeps have had wp 3.5 issues since upgrading and so have I. I tried switching to twenty-twelve theme to see if it was my theme, but no still can't create tags for my posts, can't change post date and some other minor issues. I read in the wp support forum you should try deactivating all your plugins, see if that helps and if so, reactivate them one by one and keep checking to make sure the problems are fixed, thus finding the one that is causing the problem. This seems to be a better solution than trying to downgrade back to wp 3.42??

My question is does deactivating them affect the previous posts? Like all in one seo, for example, would all my titles, desc, kw and tags still remain?

What about settings for various plugins? Adsense etc, assume I have to re-do them.
I have the following plugins that I hesitate to deactivate, but I hate having problems so I'm just being cautious. Let me know if you think it would be fine.
Thanks

WP Lockup - changes your log in url, database table names, etc
Backup Creator - prob ok, but ? (yes I did b/u b4 upgrading, can I use that to downgrade?)
404 redirected - will I lose all the previously redirected url's? I re-did my site so I use this so people can find similar posts to what was orig. and it's nice to see what ppl are still looking for
Wordpress Amazon Associate - will I lose the info in the posts, Am prod codes?
The rest shouldn't be an issue.
Thanks for any help!
Sandra

Just deactivating the plugins shouldn't cause the associated
data to be deleted in MOST cases but it's impossible to say
100% because the coder could have coded it to remove
    data on deactivation.

Highly unlikely though and as I say in the majority of cases
    the data will remain intact.

Correct, you can't downgrade as easy as upgrading because the database version, etc..

Settings and options for themes or plugins are stored in the database so it's still there.
Like SteveWF stated, only a tiny number of coders (and they would be uber amateur) would ever delete settings upon deactivation. However, if that happened, you might reconsider the usage of that plugin if that's the case.

You said you did a backup, so that's cool, you'll be ok.

Deactivate everything and use the default theme. If you still have an issue then something got corrupted.

Re-install/upgrade v3.5 again. You can easily do this manually by FTP'ing v3.5 folder/files except wp-config, htaccess, and wp-content and over-write everything else.
The exception will be for wp-lockout. They write to the htaccess and might even create a folder.

I personally would re-install that fresh, it takes all of 60 seconds.... which means you could delete the htaccess (save a backup copy and rename it to htaccess.txt)
After you log back in to admin just re-save your permalinks and the htaccess will automatically be re-created.

The worst case thing that could ever happen is you have to re-install the backup, but that could be done in 10min. So you'd still have all your settings either way.

    Hope this helps a little.

Thanks for your help Steve and David. I do appreciate it. I was busy watching the Niners win so haven't attempted anything yet. I may even wait until next weekend as I have Seatlle/Atlanta game to watch tomorrow, then pre-celebrate my bday.
thanks again and I'll keep you posted when I do it

Ok, I did everything finally. Beside all the great football games I was watching (go Niners!), I was too scared to do it. But I sucked it up, felt the fear and did it anyway!

Turned out to be a plugin called Image Presser Pro by Cossack in the WSO section. He writes good plugins in general from what I have used and has good cust support. ok this part was edited b/c even though this plugin doesn't have the update feature in WP, I decided to check my email for updates and there it was sure enough. I tried it and it works, mostly. (feel like an idiot, but hey, live and learn) I'm still having one issue with creating links via the wp link function in a post. I let him know.

Anyway, just wanted to let everyone know in case you have had similar problems when updating to wp3.5. There are probably other plugins in the same boat, that need updating. So, just try the above steps the guys listed and if you figure it out, check your email for updates and if none, let the seller/creator know and see if you can get it fixed.

      Hope that helps,
      Sandra
      Thanks again guys!
