When the flat design trend first started I thought it was cool. Now I'm sick of it. Every site looks the same. I wonder what the next trend will be. I do appreciate minimalism and I applaud flat design for that.

I don't know. It doesn't bother me that much. Look at the "Post Reply", "Quote", "Multiquote" buttons below the posts in this forum. Those are what might be considered flat design. I do think the flat design look is a refreshing change from the 3D buttons look. Anything can get old after a while. Obviously, you're getting sick of it.

i'm a designer, and trends like these shouldn't be a limit of ones creativity.

Yes, sick of the bootstrap theme. I have absolutely no artistic talent. However, I like the designs at Zen Garden mezzoblue ยง css Zen Garden Design List

I guess you could describe those as flat, but they seem to have much more creativity.

I'm tired of one horizontal block of color that follow another dramatically contrasting block of horizontal color and on and on. And these pages seem to scroll forever. Most of the time you click on something and then if you hit the back button you are back at the top of the page -- annoying. I've heard the argument that these are better for tablets and cell phones as users prefer to just scroll.

Let's hope for a better innovation, as FLAT UI is by far the best designing practice... everyone everywhere is adapting this concept. If you wish you can design your own new concept.

I am a web developer and I still meet few people who want that 3D look on their sites. I have developed a site just 20 days ago where I designed an OLD SCHOOL design (3D buttons, Left & Right Margins with center box, flashy animation & utterly bright colors).

What I mean to say here is, it depends on the person and in our case clients, we have to do what they like and we get paid for that. Some designs that I have made for my clients I still don't use them in my portfolio (those were pathetic) but the clients liked it.

Well, if you wish to do something different... open an editor... start typing a code... make something out of your imagination... MAYBE that can end-up as next big thing...

    Best of luck... <3

UI's are a bit like fashion. Wait long enough and what was out of fashion will be back in vogue again.

3D design will be all the rage again in 5-10 years. :-)

Yep. And there will be a bunch of arguments as to why it's better.

I think the reason flat design was such a hit and continues to be, is because of the popular design concept - k.i.s.s. (keep it simple stupid). A lot of modern design leans on the belief that less is more. Some of the most highly regarded graphic designers of our age showed us how simple something could be and still be seen as 'genius'. As long as this concept remains, I don't think flat UI will ever truly fade out.

It's all just a trend, like wearing your pants so your ass is exposed. Soon it will pass on and some new load of crap will come along that everyone will have to have (website clients).

When I make a site, I just keep the user in mind. Like the Google website, it's all about usability and making it easy for them. The rest (cosmetics) just falls into what's trending now, imo.

May I add that the one thing I hate about flat design, or more a case of what came with it, is low contrast, like in the Wordpress Dashboard.

On my laptop, sometimes I can't see where fields start and finish because the whole lot looks white. I really think that's a stupid trend.

I think flat design is great when its done well, but I've seen some really abysmal attempts on my travels. I've noticed that flat design is evolving too with the introduction of long shadows and more detail is creeping into icon design.

Flat UI design is here to stay for the next 5-10 years due to tablets, mobile and ipads etc. It is just the best way to go for firstly the look and also accessibility as well as usability for these type devices. The emphasis is on making large clickable buttons for target 'it' areas (to access info quicker) and 3D design doesn't look that great on the new HD quality flat screens as it looks like 'overkill' trying to use light sources on surface finishes on graphics like buttons, menu bars etc..

Design of a website must be clear and fast without loading, I like the simple clear user friendly websites. Because a visitor is not coming on your website to admire your design but to find the information he need. Must be easy for the visitor to find his way.

I think flat design is the "current new trend" for web design.
Don't forget that "one-page" thing too.

I've been a fan of the minimalist style since I can remember so I do love me the flat design. The 3d style just stands out as old for me but that's just my opinion.

YOU BET I AM! I am VERY sick of flat design. Every theme in WordPress looks the same.

Apple ruined it's GUI by violating every HIG with iOS 7-9. The iPad is practically unusable for those with less than good eyesight and it is not a pleasant experience anymore. I will not buy an Apple product until they resume their former quality.

That said, can anyone point me to where I can find themes that are NOT flat? Even just the menu bar, a little texture is natural to the eye, flat makes your eyes work harder and is NOT natural. Life is not flat!

You can find many non-flat themes at Themeforest.

It just depends on what industry your looking for. For instance many Gaming themes are still 3D and gradient heavy.

      Good Luck.
