BLAM ADS CONTENT LOCKING. DOES IT EFFECT SEO and Google Rankings for Keywords?

Hi Guys,

I got a Games website with over 2500 visits per day. I am monetizing it with adsense now. I was thinking to change the monetization method to Blam Ads.

Most of my traffic is from Google organically.

My Question is Does Blam ads effect SEO? I mean it is a Content Locking system as far as I know. So I wanted to make sure that my website SEO and GOOGLE Rankings for keywords won't get effected? As they are the main source of income?

Any response based on previous experience is highly appreciated.

Thanks,

    Not sure...

But why not just try some gaming offers instead of content locking.

If it is gaming site it shouldn't be too hard to out do Adsense earnings with CPA offers.

It shouldn't. The content locker is based in Javascript, and search engines do not read or attempt to parse Javascript. They'd need to analyze the code to determine what it does and that it locks the page - they don't do that.

Thanks for your response. But actually during recent penguin updates google is more concerned about user experience including the placement of ads on the website as well. So when they can read the placement of ads then can't they read the locker? And of course like we all know it effects user experience? Anyone had any practical experience on this?

    Thanks,

I don't know if Google can specifically read content locker scripts, but I am sure if they did you would get penalized for it.

I would not risk it, and try monetizing it other ways.

If it is a gaming site, you could do thing what would convert better than content locking.

Content Locks script does effect in SEO ranking, but if you're uncertain, you can take a try. If you need evidence, simply try use the google cache data to view your site, they actually record down how your site is.

To be sure, the answer is both No and Yes.

No because as already mentioned, the content locking script is javascript. And unless you're redirecting your visitors, search engine bots will still see your content.

And Yes because locking your content will ultimately have an effect on your traffic from a *user experience* perspective.

Some visitors will simply hate that you've locked your content and will moan and groan, tell all their friends, hate on you, abandon your site, and never visit it again. This can't be helped. Many folks just have a high sense of entitlement when it comes to the Internet

Anyway, expect higher site abandonment rates... which is something G monitors when configuring your PR. With higher abandonment rates, may come a devaluing of your site's PR. Thus, from this aspect, there's an effect on SEO.

The way to approach this is to lock only certain pages or sections on your site. You can also notify your visitors that certain sections are "Premium" and require a survey completion for full access. Doing this puts your visitors in a better mindset when they see your locked pages (ie: no surprises).

Lastly, if opting to configure your content locking script to redirect just in case a visitor turns of javascript or has an Ad Blocker - then set your script to redirect back to a page on your site... not the network. This way, you can keep funneling traffic back to your site.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks Guys. I have temporarily dropped the idea of monetizing the website with content locking ads. I can try it on a not so important site or may be if I find someone who has faced no harm in rankings organically.
