Best sources to restart from scratch

Back in 2000s had a couple of websites, a news site and an attempted affiliate/info site but had to sell one and shut down the other because of studies. This was right about the time panda and penguin updates were being released. Looking to re-enter the field so can someone help me with sources where I can brush up my knowledge? Hoping for more of a news/info sites that rely on seo/content marketing rather than info about youtube/fb/insta marketing.

Around that time I had come across something called sitebuildit but now when I check on it, finding a lot of bad reviews. Many of them though say it is not "cost effective". What about the service it provides? And I believe there was a detailed master print type of process...is that a scam as well?

You don't say 'when' in the '2000s' but doesn't really matter - you will be starting over. Any tools, site builders or software you used then is most likely either gone or pretty useless now.

This forum is a 'source' - use the advanced search function and search for posts using various keywords. Look in the Warrior Path section for the thread on 'starting from nothing' - etc. The help is here if you look for it. You may need to be flexible when deciding what you don't want to do - such as social media.

You would probably do best to learn to use Wordpress - loads and loads of free tutorials online and far preferable to the old site builder you mention. Business basics don't change - but the processes of IM have changed quite a bit in the past 10-20 years.

Kay King..as I said, I left the scene around the time panda and penguin were launched..checking back, saw that panda was released in 2011 so that would mean I had the news site since 2007 or so and tried my hand at an affiliate site in 2011. Ended everything after panda was launched and just before penguin's release i.e at end of 2011 or start of 2012.

I had started with wordpress/joomla(news) but had shifted the affiliate site to Site Build It...saw that they have now rebranded themselves as Solo Build It and they are allowing wordpress installation as well (I believe 10 years ago they had started allowing customized templates).

I am looking for seo/im process and know I will need to learn it all from the basics once again. Most of the suggestions that I see recommend making youtube videos or through pinterest etc and I am looking for info regarding seo/keyword research/fb/twitter etc..will check the forum thanks..

The quality of the questions asked in any post definitely impact the quality of the answers given.

Elementor seems to be the wordpress block builder (not an affiliate link, just a summary site I found) I see the most often these days, though Thrive and Divi are honorable mentions. I think this is the sort of thing that matches up with what Solo Build It is offering? Add the Yoast SEO plugin and you should have most of the functionality.

Solo is offering the thing as a business in a box, which is always a lie no matter how you spin it, and I'll bet it all still runs on top of wordpress. It's likely competitors really are making fake reviews, it was certainly done on Amazon against competing product sales--like saying your product catches fire, which is a dead ringer for getting your product removed--and I wouldn't be shocked about people doing any particular thing. So that is to say I can't speak to whether SBI! is any good or not... but what I can say is you are still definitely on the hook for bringing traffic to the site--regardless of how you build it.

So will some buyers say it's not cost-effective? Years ago there was a whiteboard videomaker craze. People ate that up because they thought it would remove the need for them to make the sale: the video would do it for them. What the lie of the business in a box didn't tell them is that they were still on the hook for getting traffic. Starting to see the picture?

If you spend $19/mo or $199/yr or whatever and you don't get the traffic side handled, of course it's not going to be cost-effective.

But that is math, and the large majority of people (on this forum and in the outside world) don't want to think about math. Even basic, really basic, math.

Think about business models. I recently shared--yet again--an in-depth but not my my opinion complicated--write-up on what a business model looks like and what the pieces are that you need to be thinking about it. As usual, few cared. Why? Because there's a little math involved and you have to think.

People want that Easy button... they want to be told "go here, do this"... but that's not how success works. If it worked that way, in a mechanical way, everyone would be rich. Clearly they are not, which means you'd better try another way. I hope you do.

Hello Jason..thanks a lot for the reply. I have got no issues "creating" a website. Back when I was starting out, I did create websites from scratch (old school html/css) and later on was directed towards site building or content management software such as Joomla by another helpful user. And you hit the nail on the head..my problem is marketing/traffic and I thought I had made that clear in my original post though maybe I should have been more explicit.

Regarding business math, that was one of the reasons I had mentioned SBI. When I had created my news site, I had originally hosted it on one of the lesser plans on hostgator. As the traffic grew though, bandwidth issues meant the site kept crashing and I was forced to opt for a more expensive dedicated server plan that was eating into the income (had started off paying around $10 a month for the cheaper plans, ended up spending around $40 for dedicated hosting plan)

My experience of SBI was that there was no such bandwidth issues and it would seem a cheaper option than a dedicated server plan. Along with added benefits such as keyword planner, taking away all the technical trouble of setting up a website (not just template creation) means that for me, it seems like a cost effective option.

Of course getting the traffic was and remains the biggest point and I was not too happy with that area of the process that it tried to explain. So that part of my question really was whether they had updated that section and was for those who are still using their service. Generally I had asked where could I update myself on the latest info regarding seo/im

I have been doing HTML since back in 1999 and it is my preference because it's just faster for me.
If I have the content ready, I can setup a 20-page website in a couple of hours, but that will be a static
site. If you want any of the functionality that is required these days then you have no choice but to use
WordPress. I have been doing WP over the years as well but things have changed and it's hard to
keep up unless you're doing WP on a full-time basis.

I hired a developer to setup a WP site for me a few days ago and when he was done I went in there to
fix a simple typo and change some of the wording. He used Elementor and after I saved my changes the
homepage was a mess. I didn't want to contact the guy to tell him how I had messed up the homepage
after all the beautiful work he had done, plus didn't want him to think I was stupid so I figured out how to
save the changes in Elementor. Do I want to learn Elementor? Not really, but I might not have a choice
because I'm going to use that same developer for other WP projects.

As it has been stated you will need to start from scratch. I use Hostgator for my HTML sites and I think
they host WP but I am using SiteGround for my WP hosting. You could use something like FreeYellow
I think it is really affordable for anyone. You can refresh your SEO knowledge thru books and YouTube
tutorials, that is where I go if I need to learn anything these days. You may not be keen on social media
marketing but how do you intend to get traffic. Things are much more saturated now so you will need
to figure out how to be competitive. Get yourself back up and running just as soon as you can.

    Hi there

Welcome to the forum. Ubersuggest has a free course which covers the basics of keyword research. Afterwards I would also recommend two courses on Gumroad by James Lee, Affiliate Guerrilla (free) and Affiliate Site Empire (paid). I found these useful, method is based solely around SEO.

I would suggest start with the free courses first.
