This is why your last affiliate marketing campaign failed

Hi, my name is Jan.

I've started playing with online marketing (particularly with affiliate marketing) back in 2006.

Everything was a lot easier back in the day.

All you had to do was pick a good offer, build a very simple web page on Joomla (Joomla anyone?) and start playing around with traffic.

Pay per click was cheap, so you could drive boatloads of traffic for pennies on the dollar and people would buy from your affiliate links without realising it's an affiliate link in the first place.

I used to depend a lot on ezines back then, with ezinearticles being my favourite source of traffic. It was easy to publish your articles and the traffic you got from there was quick and highly converting.

But what about affiliate marketing in 2021?

How do you actually succeed with affiliate marketing with all the noise, whistles and bells out there?

If you're like most people I've met online, you have probably invested hundreds if not thousands of dollars in courses, ebooks, memberships and even coaching programs and yet here you are, still scratching your head why you're not making passive residual income with affiliate marketing.

I believe that most new marketers and even people who have been in this space for a while have a lack of focus.

It's very difficult to succeed in one area of internet marketing if you're trying to do everything all at once.

So for now, forget about how great ecommerce is or how approaching offline businesses is the next best thing to make high ticket sales and just focus on affiliate marketing.

I believe anyone can succeed wildly with affiliate marketing if they follow a proven strategy that has worked for other super affiliates.

So I would like to share with you exactly how my business is structured and how you can absolutely crush it with affiliate marketing in this very thread you're reading now as a way to pay back this wonderful community of the Warrior Forum.

If I basically had to start all over again, from scratch and with a minimal budget, I would follow the below outlined formula to earn my first commissions online as an affiliate.

First and foremost, forget about the affiliate network, commissions structure and even the classical list building theories you might have seen before.

You don't want to be just another "affiliate marketer". So don't put your focus on the product and which product has the better pay rate. Focus on yourself and your hub.

Create an online presence for yourself starting with a free website builder such as Wordpress, Wix or Squarespace.

I've listed these because they easily allow you to create members pages where people have to create an account to access the material inside your website.

Buy a domain name. And connect it with your website.

Get yourself a business email address. you@yourbusiness.com

Create a landing page and shoot a quick video explaining to people exactly why you are doing what you are doing and how they will benefit if they join your hub (i.e. members area)

If I was to teach people how they can become successful with affiliate marketing, I would start with a headline like:

"Stop buying more courses, start having real results."

And shoot a quick video presenting myself and demonstrating to people how I can help them achieve XYZ. This can be done by showcasing some of your results, testimonials of your previous clients if you have any and by giving them some bonuses as an incentive for them signing up.

This is all "free" remember, so people wouldn't have a hard time joining your website if the offer is compelling and there are incentives they wouldn't want to miss out on.

After they create their free account, you now have them in your hub. You can post informative videos that you believe will help them achieve what they are looking to achieve.

Remember, this doesn't have to be a "make money online" type of website, it can be anything. Training your dog, learning how to swim, play the guitar, etc. You get the idea.

Whatever you have promised on your "hook" that got them to create an account and sign up, you should deliver.

I suggest that you give your best training in this members area, and don't ever ask from them to buy anything.

They will be surprised and will usually want to learn more.

You can then create an automatic email sequence to your new members asking for feedback.

This can help you understand their pain points and have a clear understanding of the type of product they need and what will solve the problem for them.

After you got people's attention, trust and know what they need, you may suggest an affiliate product (I say suggest, because that's basically your goal as an affiliate) to presell a product without selling the product directly and let them decide if they want to have it or not.

On top of everything, you can always add more content on your website and send an email to your members whenever you post something new and valuable.

I'm obviously trying to keep this as short as possible here because I don't want to get people overwhelmed with too much information, but you get the point.

Don't be just another affiliate, trying to get traffic to an affiliate offer directly. Or to a landing page that has no value at all.

Be different, be unique. Create your own brand and by doing so, you will be able to promote different types of products to the same audience because they love your content and love to see what you have to recommend.

Now I understand that some people will want to know how to get traffic to their website. But believe me, if you do this right and create everything as I've outlined, traffic will become easy.

There are hundreds of sources where you can get quality traffic to your website.

That's for another post.

(mod edit)

I'm hoping you've been able to find some value in this post. I hope you take action and create something for yourself because you truly deserve success and you can be successful with affiliate marketing when you apply the right things that get results.

Have a prosperous weekend,

Jan Ijäs

Arguable. We think it was "easier back in the day" because we've learned so much.

Hey Jan, Thanks for the post!

I've been working on a new funnel and I'm doing things I've never, ever done before. I know it will set me apart from the crowd.

I think what you are suggesting about building a database of leads before you think about an affiliate product has merit, however, I also believe that setting up your content, and a sales funnel, before you buy any traffic can also work, if you do your research.

I'd love to hear what you think...

    Sincerely,
    Jess

This quote pretty much describes my internet marketing journey, haha. So I would definitely agree with you on all these points.

The biggest problem is the lack of focus and the seemingly endless selection of possible courses and products that you can buy on the same topic but each one is formulated a little more exciting and different so that you want to try everything possible at the same time.

The trick is to develop the absolute super focus and almost like an obsessive to pursue a single idea and become successful with it.

I think apart from that one of the problems that many people have is that they read information like this in your post which sounds super and logical but then of course don't know how to put it into practice and it becomes too much and too complicated and they distract themselves again elsewhere.

I think (from my perspective and experience ) that most people are caught up in the whole, vs the step, in front of them.

If we take something simple like a funnel ( Ad - Lander - Offer ) I somewhat willy nilly put all 3 pieces in place. I then focus on the Ad. I dont touch the other 2 steps in getting the ad to actually work IE get clicks.

From there I then work on the lander, now that I actually have traffic coming to it, it makes the effect of changes far more obvious.

And lastly I work on the actual offer..the ad is delivering traffic, the lander is now producing follow through with the CTA ( Call to Action ) and now I can focus solely on the conversion, AKA the sale.

The minute you are making changes across all 3 aspects of the funnel, you are simply shooting yourself in the foot.

The exact same principles apply to any other development process you might run through.

You are going to start a makinhg money online business. You need a name, you then use a tool such as ( https://www.namecheckr.com/ ) to identify URL's and Social names that are consistent ( BRANDING - IE consistent names across all platforms. ) then you get hosting, then you get a theme, then you build the site, then you add content ( Site and Social ), then you add e-mail responder, then you obtain or develop a product, then you build a lander, then an ad, then you test the ad, then you test the lander, then you test the offer.

You do each and every one of these steps in order ( maybe not that specific order ) but simply isolate one action at a time. And we are not talking "Perfect" here by any means..we are talking shells. Done but not done. YOU in development only know what "Perfect" is in your mind. Your NOT building all of this for YOU, you are building all of this for your audience. And until you get your audience in front of all this you have built, YOU have no idea what they like and dislike.

So again each and every step one at a time... As you need to learn things about that ONE step, do so. EVERYTHING you need to know about any ONE step is free between Google and Youtube.

ONCE you have all of these elements in place, and you feel the need... THEN get a course, and YOU then have the foundation to apply the course to VS trying to folllow a course, build all this stuff, and run around knowing there are all these steps and bouncing from one to the next to the other, and then blaming failure on the course... Because regardless of what ever course you may get... there will be holes... Steps in the process not mentioned. I would bet 99% of the time, the holes, or missed steps are going to be in the most basic foundation.

When you are going up a set of stairs you dont just hop up to a middle step, then the first step and then hop up again 3/4 of the way and then drop back down to the 3rd step.... ONE step at a time - to the top.

YOU have this goal - making money online... whats the first step? then the 2nd, the 3rd the 50th? Lay out the steps, and climb the staircase to success ONE STEP at a time.

Next and next and next is not overwhelming, its time consuming, BUT time consuming gets you to your goal. Rome was not built in a day, and reaching your goal of making money online wont be done in one day either. The Rabbit and the Hare, slow and steady wins the race.

      Hope that Helps!

Yes! The funnel falls down at every stage. Get the action you want happening at the current step working before you move on to the next.

Scientists will tell you: change ONE variable at a time or you'll muddy the waters. You want to know which change made the difference so that maybe you can duplicate it next time.

Thanks for your contribution. I would definitely agree with you that the focus should always be on the next important step. That's something that can be quite difficult for beginners or for overthinkers in general that you think too much about the overall result instead of taking action step by step and get every day at least 1% better than the day before.
