They will Steal your product…

Recently I had a conversation with a Warrior about how a product they were selling was being given away for free, I wanted to help this warrior, but for some really strange reason this warrior was not interested in the fact that they were loosing sales, for example on one black hat forum, alone, 50 people had already downloaded this marketers product and they probably gave it to their friends as well.

When this starts to happen, the value of your product becomes diluted, it becomes of less value, because some of those 50 users that downloaded it for free would have purchased it, that is the truth, if some users cannot find your product for free they will buy it.

You might have the Aesop fables syndrome, well those people would never have purchased my product anyway, (the fox and the grapes) read it sometime it is really interesting, the point is this while you cannot stop a thief, you can slow them down and you can make it difficult for them to "share" a product.

Now you might be tempted to think well who cares about those people some will steal your products and you cant stop them, perhaps that may be true, but what about the customers that have actually purchased your product?

My thought is this "as a seller I have a responsibility to protect my customers purchases"

If I expect to run a business and I expect to gain the trust of my customers, should I not put at least a lock on the door at night? The reasoning is simple, the cost of any product must be carefully designed to meet the needs of the market and to meet the needs of the customer and to also meet the needs of the business, when you are careless with your product and your business, (is it not the paying customer) that in the end pays the high cost of your careless method of doing business?

As a customer when you see a product you want to purchase, you want to understand a few things about a product, what it is, what it can do for you and how much does it cost.

If the cost of the product is priced at an affordable amount, most customers will buy it however if it is priced at a higher amount it gives the customer a moment to reflect on if they really want to purchase the product, the reason for this is simple, self preservation, the customer wants to know that what they are investing in is going to be a stable product, and it will be around so that the customer can get the value that they must invest in that product.

We all know there are no "real guarantees" in life, just as there are no real guarantees in business, you have a certain amount of expectation, that a product will do what it was intended to do, but in the end, just as in life it is a risk, if you look at a product and a seller and you see them operating a business in say the bad part of town, where it is likely that someone might break into their business and steal their products, you as a customer may think twice about doing business with that seller, and why is that?

Simple, if a seller is stupid, and inexperienced, and will not listen to well intentioned advice then how can you expect that seller to stand behind a product if you purchase it?

You see that is the human condition here, we want to make sure that when we choose to purchase a product, that the money we spend on that product is not wasted, because we have all seen this happen in the past, and we do not want to repeat that bad buying experience.

Again Human nature, do you blame someone for wanting to make sure that what they are investing in is a solid business opportunity and will not disappear over night?

You bet your Beef Cakes, ()

The price of a product really makes all the difference, if your buying a hamburger at Mcdonalds, and you say, no catsup on that, and the cost of that hamburger was .99 cents, and when you get home you find, catsup on that hamburger, you will probably just remove the catsup and eat it anyway, (come one you know you have been there) but if that same hamburger, costs, $5.99 and it is not the way you expected it to be then you might just get irritated enough to take that thing back and politely demand that it be fixed or replaced.

The hamburger analogy here is indicative, of the cost of a product, and what the buyer expects from the seller, if a seller is selling a $30.00 hamburger, or even a $85.00 hamburger you expect to get a really great hamburger that other people cannot just go out and pickup for .99 cents right, sure anyone would feel that way.

So again, if you are selling the rolls royce of Internet products, take precautions with it, don't sell it in a bad area, don't just allow people to download and share your product anywhere and everywhere, because it is just not fair to your customers, all of whom paid for the privilege of being your customers, so in the end if you don't care enough about that customer to at least run your business in a professional manner, how can you expect to be in business over the long haul?

What I really find objectionable is the fact that there are a lot of warriors that get taken in on this type of deal every day and for the most part people here are afraid to articulate that thought, because they are afraid of being harassed, you know what that is wrong, and I am not afraid to tell you that up front, if you don't like it or you find yourself offended, sorry?

But I feel an obligation to the customer, to provide them with the best product that I can provide to them, and if I see someone sharing that product, and devaluing it for the customers that I have already sold it to I am going to take action.

I might not be able to stop them dead in their tracks but I can sure slow them down and sometimes that is all it takes, so think about that the next time you buy a WSO and ask if that product is protected from downloading thieves, because if it is not, chances are that you are wasting your money buying that product in the first place.

    How to protect a product?

Interesting. Now I'm curious about what can be done to secure a product or actions to take if a product makes its way into file sharing.
