Are Leaders Readers?

This subject has been on my mind throughout the past couple of weeks. What do leaders do? They lead, right? What makes them leaders? They are dedicated to the task at hand and in situations they are the first to make a move without looking back.

Leaders learn from past leaders but how? THEY READ!

Leaders spend a lot of their time in “self study.” They spend time researching and reading from past leaders of their industry or niche. Whether this is the military in driving to be a General or becoming a millionaire marketer using the internet. Leaders do their due diligence and push themselves to learn all that they can about the subject at hand as well as past leaders faults and failures as to make sure they do not do the same things.

What are you doing to push yourself further into leadership material? I have two simple suggestions that will help you no matter what you are becoming a leader in. If you follow these two ideals, I promise, you will become a better leader faster.

1) Schedule time for “self study.” Depending on your schedule, make a time slot with a beginning and ending time and during this time turn off all distractions and dig into the publications and documents that you can to learn all you can for yourself. Life gets hectic sometimes but you HAVE to do this!

2) Find a mentor! Ask yourself what you are becoming a leader in? What type of work are you doing? Are you an entrepreneur? What about building your ranks in the corporate world? It really doesn’t matter what you are doing. You need to look around you at the prominent people that have done the same thing as you are currently doing and succeeded and if they will take you under their wing and help you, DO IT! You will have to make your own mistakes but it is easier to make mistakes with help from outside than to make them on your own and not know where to turn.

We can make excuses constantly and always find something else to do but if you are a true leader, NOTHING will get in the way of your self development! Leaders are made, NOT born!
