Are you an MLM Zombie, stumbling around everywhere moaning: Must build downline! Do you think that is the kind of thing that will attract fresh MLM leads to you and allow you to actually build a downline?

The reality is everyone and their dog is trying to do the same thing as you. Did you know that about a million people will search for ways to make money this month and there are almost 40 million competitors at any given time in Google. Next month a hefty chunk of those people searching will turn into competitors and if they sign up under you they will not only be competitors but also on your team. Talk about a conflict!

Even if you get a few of those people in your downline how can you really go very far? How can you actually successfully build a downline and grow your business on a long term basis in these kind of circumstances? This is why so many people manage to get a few sign ups, but eventually stall and fail.

The secret, if you are ready for it, is not to market your program. If you aren’t ready for it, you are already scoffing. You are going to go back and keep searching until you find someone who has a secret you like better. Eventually your business will fail and you will call it all a scam.

If you’re still here that means you are ready for the secret of how to build a downline. You are ready to find some fresh MLM leads and you are tired of the old zombie routine in general. The top of your to do list, in this new way of doing things, is still: Build Downline. Instead of building your downline by trying to sell your program though, you are going to focus on selling yourself. After all how many people out there are selling you?

Picture these scenarios:

1) You are walking down the street and you see a guy with a big sign hung around his neck that says “Buy my Stuff!” and he is waving a bag of mysterious contents in everyone’s face saying “Hey I got this stuff you need to buy!” You stare for a minute. You notice his skin is a little gray-green and he tends to shuffle–kind of seems a little zombie-ish. You ponder whether you should just avoid eye contact and rush past, or cross to the other side of the street completely.

2) You have been hearing a name around town. Everyone seems to have heard of her. Your friend keeps telling you that you should go meet her. When you meet her she is really nice–she listens to you, she offers you a cookie. It is the best cookie you have ever eaten. You discover she has a cookie empire and actually sells those cookies. You are fascinated and enthralled and want to be just like her. When you find out she sells her cookie recipe you rush out to buy it.

Ok so my examples are a little out there, but what do you think makes the woman in scenario two more successful than the man in scenario one–other than the whole zombie vs. cookie thing? His bag could have had good cookies too, but you won’t ever find out. What the woman with the cookies has going for her is that everyone knows her, they recommend her to each other and they all want to be like her. She doesn’t even have to ask people if they want to buy her cookie recipe. They come looking for it. She is a leader.

This is what you must focus on becomming. Stop trying to do things bass ackwards! No more shuffling after people and waving your bag of mysterious contents in their faces. Its time to be more transparant and visible and make your downline to come to you. Use the Social Networking tools the Internet Gods have provided you! Learn more about inbound marketing and attraction marketing and being a leader.

Build Downline is at the top of your to do list because it must be the heading, not one of the steps. If you lead people will follow. So go out and start leading!
