There has been some discussion here in the forums about free ebooks and reports.

Some say that they aren't worth your time to read.

Others say that they don't have enough useful information in them to help and always leave you with more questions than answers. And more people have said, most free ebooks and reports have way to much advertising in them.

I have read many free ebooks and reports that actually had more information in them than a 47 dollar product.

As far as advertising, the pdf was free, someone spent there time to write and wrap there information in a nice tidy package to give away. So what, if there are affiliate links inside?

I don't see a problem, do you?

If you click on there link and purchase the recommend product or service, great that is the authors pay off. Believe me if it didn't cost more than $50 it would take at least five or more sales to really make a profit from free information.

If the author didin't write useful information that you could take away from then don't use there information anymore. The author is probably new or don't really know what they are writing about. This is why research is your best friend. The more research that is put into your content the better information you will write.

I know when I sit down to write anything I always make sure that I have done all the research and have used the tips or strategies that I write about and they work period.

With that said, Here's my take on...
Information productivity

There is four types of information according to infopreneur Michael Ross author of the famed ebook "art of leverage" (disclaimer: If you click the blue link to the above they are affiliate links to "Art of Leverage".

Now that is out of the way...

Types of Information:
  1. Surface
  2. Camouflage
  3. Hidden
  4. Buried.
We will only deal with two types and they aren't Michael's. I decided to take a simpler route :
  1. Good and
  2. Better information
Remember, we are dealing with free and paid information i.e, articles, blog post, small reports and ebooks are all lump into information. there are many other forms of information, but this is what we are going to deal with in this post. Feel free to include any other form as it applies to your situation.
  • The Good: Really, good information is in the mind of the beholder or reader. Most information is in the form of free or paid. I bet your thinking the good information is the 'freebie' and you will be right and wrong. When you opt to read content, you either choose by title of the content or you are convince the information is what you are needing at the time to accomplish a certain goal, i.e; sales messages, excerpts or reviews.
Once you have consumed the content then you decide if the information was useful, terrible or way more than you hoped for. If you decided that the information was terrible more than likely you already knew most of the information in the content before consuming it. Or the author of the information is at a lower level than you are in your niche. At this point you now know that the information provided by that particular author is a time waster. Stop using that authors information, it will just hold you back from your goals.
As you can see even the terrible information was good information the only difference is Youand your knowledge of that particular subject.
  • Better: Information is what we all hope to get a daily dose of. This is the type of content you might pay for even if you get it free. It is the stuff that will put you ahead of your competition, make more sales, drive more traffic to your site, give you more twitter or face book followers, ect.
Whatever that information is You will come away with a better understanding than what you had moments before. As an example, I could tell you my formula for getting new subscriber's on to your list and it would look like this:

Traffic + incentive = subscribers
It's a no-brainier right? Every list marketer uses that formula to get new subscribers onto there list. However, in order to get a 1000 new subscribers in less than a week, you will have to add to that formula.

What do you add? I can't tell you here. This post has already went longer than I had anticipated.

Now the best way to stop information overload is to take small bites of information at any one time. Small bites only. If you begin to feel fatigued from reading, listening or watching it's time to take a small five to ten minute break and do something else, like clean your home or go for a walk. This will allow your brain to further absorb the information and process it.

So, how would you do it Warrior?
