Difference between copywriting and content writing.

I love this illustration from Copyhackers.com.

There's a direct line between copy and conversions. There is a dotted line between content and conversions. That's totally okay - not everything needs to lead to a sale! Content creators are critical to content marketing; copywriters are critical to conversion rate optimization.

So would you say the copywriter has distilled the content and by structuring the information in an influential way they have taken the prospect on that direct line without the clutter that a content writer might include?

Does a copywriter study the content that is out there and then through experience, research and knowledge of human behaviour create the straight line to boost conversions?

The best way I could describe it is that the copywriter goes for the jugular,
he goes for the kill. There is no time to "fool around", no time for romance,
are you in or out? Are you buying or not?

The content writer has time on his side so he can court and flirt but for the
copywriter, this is an emergency and there is no tomorrow.

The first thing that you need to know about copywriting is that the title is actually an advertising term. This should give you a basic idea of what copywriting is — promotional advertising copy.
Many people associate copywriting with online writing, but copywriting actually refers to any literature that is designed to promote something. Whether it is a brochure, pamphlet or other type of advertising copy, and it can be used to promote a business, product or service.
However, in the online world, copywriting typically refers to sales pages.

Content writing is vastly different from copywriting for several reasons. First of all, content writing is primarily used to inform or entertain readers.
Although a content writer may mention purchasing something in passing, this style of writing typically does not strongly encourage readers to buy anything.
Instead of attempting to persuade you to make a move, content writing should encourage you to ponder a specific topic, or it should teach you more about the topic.
Content writing should also make readers feel a bit of a connection with the author’s viewpoint, and it should encourage these readers to use their own mind to form an opinion about the content that they are reading.

Copywriting is writing copy for the purpose of advertising or marketing. The copy is meant to persuade someone to buy a product, or influence their beliefs.

content writer is a person who specializes in providing relevant content for websites. Every website has a specific target audience and requires a different type and level of content. Content should contain words (key words) that attract and retain users on a website.
