Website very low sales

Hi Guys,

I work in a "F&B - FMCG" company that sells a number of brands which are premium and top in their category.

We have an e-Commerce company website where customers can directly buy online from.

Let me mention some website data also
Approximately an average of 500 active users on the website every month
65% of traffic goes to shop, Average 7 orders a month.

Previously we tried printing discount vouchers and give it out in related events, which generated some sales but not anything more than 1.5% of the vouchers.

We've also tried providing some companies which we have done products sampling at, some employee discount code to use on the website, which also resulted in the same percentage of sales.

We are very active on Instagram and have between 5k-10k followers, which we also post on holidays and on occasions a discount code, also it would result in 0-1 sales.

We have waived delivery charges and now it's free, still didn't affect sales that much.
We also provide free samples of products whenever we get an order, for people to try and re order, which also did not result in higher sales.
We are selling our products on Amazon, and it is doing very good.


I have a few questions and I'd like to know your opinion.
  1. Why do you think our sales and traffic are low?
  2. What do you suggest to do to get more traffic and sales?
  3. We aim to hit 15 orders a day, starting with 5 and increasing, possible? how?
  4. Do you think SEO, website re-design, social media ads, SEM, would work?
  5. What do you think we can do offline to increase sales?

I'm keen to know what do you guys think and if you are facing the same issues and how would you react and solve the 5 mentioned points.

    Without knowing what it is you sell, it's hard to say if your conversion rate is low. Average eCommerce sites tend to convert at around 1-1.5%, which is exactly where you are at. If you are selling extremely expensive products, conversion rates of .5% or lower are pretty normal; cheap products, considerably higher conversion rates are expected.

    The problem does not appear to be conversions; your problem is traffic. Getting 16-17 visitors per day is not enough to make many sales - especially when only 65% of them go to the shopping section (10-11 per day). Amazon does not have that traffic problem, which is why your products sell better there.

    look at some good shopify stores and try to copy them ,
    do you have added to card and people do not buy ?
    do you have satisfaction guarantee logo and other confidance logos?

    If your sales on Amazon are doing well why not focus on that and try to increase sales that way?

    You didn't mention anything about driving paid traffic from Facebook. That is the go-to source of targeted traffic for e-commerce sales. You need to implement a paid traffic strategy.

    Also, focus on retargeting and list building. These are foundational pieces of any e-commerce business.

    1. Why do you think our sales and traffic are low? - Your traffic sources are low quality. If you rely on free traffic, SEO is a long and hard process but rewarding in the long term.
    2. What do you suggest to do to get more traffic and sales? - Paid ads - Facebook, Google Adwords, Instagram influencers -I have worked with ecommerce sites and had great success with these paid traffic sources. Also look into email marketing - getting emails in exchange of a discount, follow up sequences, abandoned carts, notifications - the whole nine yards email marketing automation.

    4. Do you think SEO, website re-design, social media ads, SEM, would work? - Yes definitely.
    5. What do you think we can do offline to increase sales? - It will depend on your product, but I'm not so much into offline marketing - do search into "guerilla marketing", it might spark some ideas.

    Traffic is what we all need and is the toughest thing you will ever have acquire in any online business.

    Solutions:
    1.Sell where the traffic is hanging out already (i.e: Amazon,eBay...),
    2. Partener with Amazon sellers to sell your inventory with proven technics they use in their business,
    3.Start blogging (if you were not doing it) and implement SEO technics to get even more traffic. SEO is not easy so you may need someone to help you with it.
    4. Improve online conversion an integrate an affiliate program to get even more visitors.

    I think if you can apply at least one of the above technics,you will see an increase in sales and thus in profits.
