Need help. Potential client for seo/Web design in 8 hrs am I going I to a trap?

Hey everyone - I swear I'll make this as short as I can.

I met someone who has physical product to sell.
His website is terrible. Based on squarespace template and there are many obvious reasons he doesn't make sales.

I quoted him $250 to optimize the pages, re-write them (about five total) and make it seem less scary for people to buy.

Also said we could look at adding proper keywords and seo for his two youtube videos.

So he is worried about me having access to his site (personal data) and being able to log in and change it on my own time.

Also we went from paying me up front to him saying that we could meet, put a plan together and if I can generate him sales him retaining my services.

This wouldn't be a one time job at his home. Watching over me... And I'm worried about him wanting to see "results" as I'm offering him site optimization for that price, not a magic cash register that sells his product.

    I think his approach is based on results since he will not pay you upfront, so it can be very catchy. If i were you i would try to explain to him that you will require the payment upfront and that you will not guarantee any sales. If he cannot pay you upfront you need to decline the deal or else i think you will loosemoney and time.

    I'd move on to another client tbh. Once the client starts moving goalposts before you start working with them it sets off massive red flags for me and I'd worry they'll squeeze you for knowledge and then say thanks see you later.

    That's the direction I'm going in. I will see if he wants to do a half payment based on his want to "put a payment schedule together" and can re-write and email his articles to him. With payment up front, I'm thinking this is my best option.
