Domain Flipping - Is it Still HOT?

Hey Warriors,

1) I've been inspired by some great WSO's on Domain Flipping and struck on one point.

dnsaleprice dot com used to give the exact price a domain was sold for, however, I think the site doesn't exist now. Are there similar alternatives as I need screenshots to prove similar domains sold for a specified amount e.g freemp3xxx dot com was sold for £3000 and I have freemp3xxx dot net. So by adding a screenshot of the .com that sold for $3000, my domain listing for .net will hopefully make buyers think and add value according to the blueprint.

Please let me know if there is an alternative to dnsaleprice dot com as I simply want to know how much previous domains were sold for and other stats.

2) Is domain flipping still profitable and what advice would you give me as I'm new to this area?

Many thanks

DNJournal.com maintains lists of the top domain sales. Namebio.com is good for comps.

IMO, Flipping was a temporary opportunity that has passed. You can still find good names that will sell for a higher price if you do your research to find buyers. Some courses make it seem too easy - and it isn't. For name sales, it's better specialize and understand a market for a specific type.

For sales pricing the most accurate site at the moment is:

      dnpric.es

They have the biggest database of public sales. As for making money, it isn't easy, but anyone can do it. It does help if you have an ok budget to start. It is way harder to start with registering names now..

.net prices are on the downturn so I suggest you stick to .com. Also buying lesser extensions on sales of .com domains isn't a good rule of thumb because many of these sales are end user purchases and when that end user has his name, he won't buy another one..

I would think it would easier with an established site that already has alot of organic traffic going to it. If you knew you would make your money back in 6 months or less plus it is a great niche, why not get 1?

To answer your title question, TrustedMarketer:

It is indeed. For those who understand how to flip professionally, it always will be. The very nature of a domain ensures this to be the case: only one of each being available. It could be argued that new extensions dilute profitability. On the contrary, they introduce further profitability.

Flipping great domain names with high ranking will always be 'HOT'. The justification is very simple. Everyday, there are more and more Internet Marketers who are searching for a good domain name that has great ranking. They do that in order to avoid building their niche's website reputation from ground up.

In other words, it's better to buy an already very well ranked domain name and customise it rather than buying a cheap domain name for $9/yr and pay thousands to rank it to the top.

Therefore, domain flipping is not dead. It's far from dead -- it's alive and very hot. It's also very profitable depending on the circumstances. (As long as you don't pay more for ranking [ads, SEO etc] and get less for selling [flipping] it).

I have personally come up with a great method. It requires a very small investment but you will be able to flip a domain name for $3000 while investing just 1% of the previous amount.

I think something like flipping domains is always going to be profitable as it is ultimately just a business that is built around who has the knowledge makes the money. Any business like that will always be profitable as there is always going to be a temporal distribution of information.

For example you register justinbieber.com before he is spotted and you will ALWAYS make a ton on it when he makes it huge. Of course this is a contrived example and doesnt represent the best way to flip domains but it does illustrate the point.

A more realistic example would be selling domains to local companies. These companies will often be run by an individual or a small group and they are not likely to understand much about domains so its easy for you to get in before them and snatch up a good domain that you can then sell to them.

Unfortunately I don't even own this domain Although I did look at one point. I guess I will just have to shell out and pay the big bucks to the genius domain flipper when I make it huge

No need. I accept donuts as currency; the elusive chocolate-flavoured with M&M sprinkles equate to 50 bucks apiece!

Domain-flipping is a dying art. Among the relative price decreases of buying and maintaining domains, new copyright laws have aided to its decrease in popularity.

It is extremely "hot" and a rock solid business, if you take the time to learn the ropes (what a concept). Those telling you otherwise have not taken the time to learn. That simple.

Any day of the week, any hour of the day, I can find very highly marketable domain names just waiting to be registered. THAT is the easiest part. Learning how to find eager buyers is the challenge, and that part is a piece of cake once you learn the ropes.

Profitable? Maybe. It ultimately depends on the domains that you hold. The overwhelming majority of newbies make nothing because they register garbage and consider it gold.

The tough thing about domaining is that no course could ever teach you how to buy the right domains. It's something that is done on a gut feeling and being familiar with online business in general. You have to be able to look at a domain and gauge the likelihood of someone wanting it without looking at bulls*** metrics like Google Keyword Tool or Estibot.
