Looking to build a list but I heard somewhere that Amazon prohibits email marketing. True?

      Not true.

Amazon only prohibits using direct affiliate links in email promotions. It actually is a very common marketing practice for affiliates to send subscribers to their pre-sell landing pages.

This is what I was going to mention.

You will need to send the email traffic to a pre-sell page (like your affiliate blog) and not directly to the product.

Amazon wants to track the source of their traffic and so that's why they don't allow you to directly send affiliate links in your email. Plus they are worried you might spam people and they will get complaints on their domain (since it would be the link in the email). This is known as "spamvertisements" and they are trying to protect themselves from that.

But you can use this to your advantage by using the pre-sell page to warm up the prospect and essentially increase your conversions.

        Hope this helps.

        Cheers,
        Coby

Can't you just strip the referrer info and send people to the link that way?

Why not just a landing page?

  • It is best to send your email traffic to a pre-sales page that reviews the amazon products. This way you are priming them to make a purchase once they click your affiliate link to go to amazon. Design the page like any sales page. Give testimonials, answer objections, etc...

The confusion above (with people saying "yes" and "no" in adjacent posts) has arisen because you've asked two different questions here, one in the title line and one in your post, and they have different answers. The reality: Amazon doesn't prohibit email marketing, and doesn't allow affiliate links by email.
