I am creating for website not wordpress. I have tried the first one, it gave error in google sitemap submission. I just tried the 3rd one, it creates just one url in the search. Strange as there are many links in the website.

Does it matters?

Create your Google Sitemap Online - XML Sitemaps Generator works for me.

When you've created your sitemap on the sitemap generator site, download the sitemap file from the link under "Download un-compressed XML Sitemap" and upload it into the "public_html" folder of your site eg.

http://www.yourdomain.com

Then go to your Google Webmaster account and add your sitemap URL which will be:

http://www.yourdomain.com/sitemap.xml

You'll need to update it manually or generate a new one if you make changes to the site, you only need to submit to Google once though.

I did that. But google gave me an error for the sitemap.

The error I got is:

Unsupported file format
Your Sitemap does not appear to be in a supported format. Please ensure it meets our Sitemap guidelines and resubmit.

Is your site very large, having hundreds of pages? Then it may give such an error, the free XML sitemap generator (I remember vaguely) does have a limit on the number of pages that they can put in the XML file. Maybe that is the problem?
If not, you can post the issue on the Google Webmaster Central Blog, there are many webmasters who are more than willing to help out on issues like this.

What software are you using to create and maintain your site?

I have had much better luck with a sitemap generator plugin for my software than I have had with any online services.

The other advantage with the plugin type of generator is that it can automatically update your sitemap and ping google even when you make a small change.

I am using HTML creator. When you are saying about plugin, are you referring to the wordpress that comes with the sitemap plugin? I use that in wordpress blogs.

Yes. For free, it creates up to 500 pages. But the error is not because of the limitation. I still can't figure out but I am testing the GSiteCrawler and see if there is any error.

I've always use gsitecrawler just because that's the one Google recommends and have finally gotten pretty good at filter urls now:

GSiteCrawler is really good. what kind of errors you have? the map is simple, actually. can't imagine it generates xml with error.

I was referring to Dave OSullivan that creates the Sitemap online is giving me the error that says:

Unsupported file format
Your Sitemap does not appear to be in a supported format. Please ensure it meets our Sitemap guidelines and resubmit.

I have downloaded the GSiteCrawler and now testing it out. It has been crawling for an hour and yet to be completed.

Will see if this will solve my problem.

If you're having problems make sure that your www or lack of www match up with your webmaster tools and your sitemap. I just had to delete the domains out of one of my accounts and redo it with the www included.
