2012; End of the Internet?

Ah......2012 isn't the end of the internet, its the end of the world so, don't worry buddy we'll all either be eatne up by the ocean or the huge lava pits that swallow cities whole.

What they are claiming as they are claiming it is GARBAGE! To have it work the way they imply would cost TRILLIONS of dollars and require technology that just doesn't exist!

WHO here, for example, can directly access Google? Can ANYONE?

I checked. I CAN'T! I am using comcast right now. They are pretty big. They get me to one company that gets to another, and another, and finally to google.

So WHO gets paid? How could anyone know what systems will be involved? And Google certainly can't, and WON'T pay for the customers!

I've heard a number of different statements about what net neutrality would be.

But figure it out. If Google changed their system now, they would probably be SUED! Maybe MILLIONS depend on ANDROID which ties to their system. You can BET they get a part of the take. Would they risk people going elsewhere? Would ISPs be for something that would OBLITERATE the value of their product? Would AMAZON be for it?

All that said, I AM in talks with Verizon. They are throttling my EVDO service, and claim that they AREN'T because "When they did do that, they were fined by the FTC"! YEP, they said that! But the fact is that they ARE throttling my service! The throughput is really NO better than DIALUP! NO, I am NOT kidding! It should be over TEN times as fast! And it USED to be. If they give me much more guff, I may have the FCC, FTC, and PUC breathing down their necks! The PUC and FTC are against such things and disregarding their wishes would violate their contract with the FCC.

I am talking with them now ONLY because COMCAST has decided to block VPN access using PPTP and quickVPN. But such garbage has been done by such jerks for almost a DECADE! Comcast, almost a decade ago, for example, blocked SMTP. But if comcast blocks port 80, or 443, I GUARANTEE that they will lose me, and MILLIONS MORE within a week! Their whole Internet system will be DEAD! They might go bankrupt simply by closing either of those ports.

BTW They blocked SMTP to try to avoid SPAM! Their reasoning for shutting down VPN is that that is, SUPPOSEDLY, only for BUSINESS! Like they said at some point this couldn't be used for business. YEAH RIGHT! They ALSO claim that is high bandwidth. Yeah right! On average, it is LESS bandwidth!

Well it would be stupid to build a new world order then try to keep the world from communicating with each other.

And the world is gonna end - in about 100 million years that they figure the sun has left before it starts to go nova. I don't plan on seeing that one anyhow. Not from this planet anyway.

well i suppose its natural to wonder about the end of what you know...especially if the events are in your lifetime. And yea i knew about the sun going nova and the inability to stop the end of the world if it did happen. my concern is the end of the net, that which we are very capable of stopping and which some thought should be put into. We are not completely helpless...

But if the internet ended, where would all of the trolls go? I guess they'd have to go actually have face to face interaction with people. And they'd actually have to try to win an argument in person. Some people just call these types d-bags. I hope the internet isn't gone ever. I spend too much time on it already. What? You mean I actually have to talk to someone in person? Whuhhhhhhh

As long as there are still gemstones around to dig up, I'll be doing pretty much the same thing I do now. I just won't be doing it online......again.

Well i have also heard so for that 2012 is the end of world not about Internet, but you were right too if world end then who will use internet?
But i don't like to believe on such kind of news its all were just rumors nothing else. For me its just wasting of time to read these news or to search about it.

I don't believe this kind of silly statements, like internet will by 2012 !
I didn't find anything logical in that..

I am sure some big corps, are wondering how to monetize the net, it's always the same vicious cycle, people find a medium that is free and enables them to share ideas, and the state wants to police it, and take their cut

I suggest that everyone stop guessing about whether the internet will be shut down or not and do some research. There are currently bills being passed by Congress which will effect our usage of the Internet--both as a end user and as an IM. One was set to be passed just the other day, but has been postponed for a few weeks. Several things are in the works with respect to the internet. One is the use of copywrited material and copied music and videos. The gov't even wants linking to another site not allowed. They want people to pay for digital downloads and every site will have to charge taxes for each state.

With respect to being shut down - one switch will do it, but like others, I doubt it will go that far. Communist countries do limit access to certain sites. I don't know how they do it, but when I was trying to how a friend in Saudi Arabia certain sites, he could not look at them as they were blocked. My sites were the usual blogs and non-X-rated and non-offensive and non-political sites. (Well at that time anyway).

With respect to 2012 and the weather, I refuse to respond to that because there are weather changes--not man-made. It's a little complicated, but there have been polar shifts, axis changes, solar flares, and a hole in the earth's magnetism.

Michael - the underground bunkers aren't conspiracy theory. The military has many of them. I lived by one in Colorado down by Colorado Springs. Hitler also had underground bunkers - you can tour them at Garmish. Underground bunkers aren't new or "theory" in any way --- it's ideas about what they are built for that go from normalcy to conspiracy theory.

Frankly - the sun is under some deep study now. It is understood that the sun activity is the major determinant of climate (but not a very taxable piece of knowledge). This sun cycle was predicted to be the strongest of any on record and it was thought it would start early - neither of these predictions panned out. The star is not acting quite normally from our knowledge base, though, right now. For that and a few other reasons (normal scientific reasons, not strange ones) it is being studied quite thoroughly.

For those who are worried about solar flares - they can happen at any time - and always could. They can create a lot of electro-magnetic havoc, and send radiation strong enough to penetrate the space station, satellites, and even spaceships where it could harm astronauts. What is a little off kilter in the theories you hear around though is that there would actually be enough warning for our leaders to be able to get to an underground bunker. 8 minutes. Unless the sun started acting so weirdly that it would spark enough fear to send people underground beforehand (which is NOT real likely since solar flares are normal occurances) the elite would get cooked right along with everyone else if one big enough to reach the planet were ejected. Considering how far we are from the sun, if it ever ejected a flare that large, I'm thinking we have more to worry about than some people hiding underground - and those underground might have more to worry about than a brief little holicost that could be avoided by not being on the surface at the time one of those things hit. I would think it would be more logical to worry about the fact that our sun is old and will super-nova as it dies......and it will shrink before it does so, so until it starts shrinking, it's not gonna blow. As far as some electromagnetic damage from normal activity and normal flares - that's always been a possibility. When you fashion your societies on energies that can be tanked by normal functioning of your star, ya might as well figure it could get messed up at some time or another. Don't need conspiracy theories to figure that one out - just a few science books.
