I recently ordered a backlink gig on Fiverr. Admittadly, I didn't look into the fine details of the ad, but it promised 100 backlinks from EDU sites, and had hundreds of positive feedback comments.
The delivered work, was a text file, containing a bunch of URLs, which led to blog pages (all "nofollow") that had been absolutely blitzed with spam already.
Clearly, most of the process had been automated with spammer software.
I decided to leave negative feedback. The seller ("backlinkmania") then completely withdrew that particular gig. A few days later, I was messaged by the same guy with the whole:
"I saw that u were looking for High Page Rank .EDU Back Links !... what about my gig..."
Presumably he had accidentally left me on his sucker list.
I hate unsolicited messages on Fiverr, and it was clear that this guy was up to no good. I reported the him to Fiverr support, who emailed me 24 hours later saying they took reports of abuse "very seriously"...
Fair enough, I thought...
..... A week later, the original gig is back up, and my negative feedback is nowhere to be seen, not when backlinkmania has had a whole page of "positive feedback" from his OBVIOUS MULTS, in the last 24 hours.
As if that wasn't sickening enough, low and behold, I recieved ANOTHER unsolicited message, from a DIFFERENT ID ("edumaniac"), with the same text ..... "I saw that u were looking for High Page Rank .EDU Back Links !" etc etc etc ...
So let me make this very clear to everyone reading all these great things about outsourcing on Fiverr:
There are people on Fiverr with fake feedback, promising everything, and delivering nothing. Take the "latest buyers feedback" with a huge pinch of salt.
Spammy backlinks can DAMAGE your SEO. Be descerning about ordering backlink & SEO services (more descerning than I was!)
An ad or text link on a busy blog or site would be much better than 100 crappy spam links on a load of non-sites.
Fiverr make money from commissions, so they don't want to IP ban users. They do however want to have a good reputation. It is clear this conflict of interests is being exploited by the scammer mults.
Fiverr are not doing enough to rid the site of scammers with multiple accounts. Nor do they have enough of a flagging system in place, both automated, and from users. Please let them know.
Apparently if you leave negative feedback, a seller can simply cancel the gig and refund you, without suffering negative feedback. This is unacceptable.
I still love Fiverr, and I think it is in all of our interests that it remains a good place to outsource, and not a hornets nest of scammers, spammers, and mults. I would strongly urge people to report anyone they feel is up to no good on Fiverr.
