Sorry for your situation. In my 14 years in the military I saw a lot of things like this.

My advice was always to treat sex like a game of golf:

1 - Always keep your balls clean.

2 - Stay out of the rough.

3 - Only go out with people you know (it's ok to meet strangers in the bar though)

4 - Always have a firm grip on your shaft

5 - Don't let anyone else use your putter.

6 - If you do sneek into the bush to relieve yourself, make sure no-one can see you.

7. Always use a smooth stroke and follow through

8. Ensure you use a firm shaft, your stroke will be straighter

and lastly.....

Good Lord!...and I just thought it was a test for the Subject line of an email. Such a fool am I.
Since I am not a medical doctor I suggest you get professional advice before attempting any well intended suggestions from this body of medical professionals. Perhaps removing said offending object and placing it in a double zip-lock bag and mailing it to a nearby medical lab for analysis would make you feel more at ease.
Let us know how that works out...

Peter, it is funny how you correctly advised that Gareth should see a doctor but then goes on to give a piece of absolutely terrible advice of your own. If you just mail a sample like this to a nearby medical laboratory, the following will probably happen

1. You are probably breaking the law and post office regulations for the inappropriate transport of biological specimens. You could be liable to a fine and imprisonment. For a start, the packing and labeling you described is totally inappropriate. You also want to use viral transport medium for the specimen.

2. The medical lab will probably reject it anyway because for one, they cannot be sure that the specimen belongs to the person it claims to come from. There are serious questions of privacy and medical ethics involved, particularly in the case of sexually transmitted diseases.

3. Most medical laboratories cannot test for herpes simplex virus on their own anyway.

Although I was a doctor who worked in a virus laboratory and did not see patients. But I am a specialist in virology and I know the diagnostic procedure for this virus well.

It may not be herpes at all. You really should just give it a rest for a few months, or do what I was forced to do if you are unable to control yourself. I used to get pussed scabbies like that every weekend, and it went all the way down from my scrotum to my knees and even spread to all over my chest and arms. The scabs never had a chance to heal and I was constantly in pain. Finally I could not stand it any longer and went to see a doctor. The doctor said it wasn't herpes; it was actually caused by rug burn. He prescribed a thick, shagged rug with at least a 4" nap to prevent recurrences. The only problem is I have to replace the rug every few months due to wear and tear, (it loses its shag) but that is a very small price to pay to be scab-free.

Actually the nearest I've ever had to an STD I caught while on a medical nutrition study.

I first got a red blotchy rash on my crotch, then it spread to my inner thighs, then my legs and arms, eventually my entire body except for head and hands/feet was covered in bright red blotches.

The doctor at the STD clinic didn't know what it was.

I searched the net and finally discovered pityriasis rosea - which is what I had
