Web Design Business? - Offer even bigger value

So, I just recently decided to "switch up" my business to offer more value.

I believe this could tremendously help others who want to start offline businesses and choose to go into the web design game.

I am switching from providing web design/re-design services to, conversion optimization.

Why? You can prove value so much easier to prospects.

The service we are going to provide is a 3 month service where we will increase the revenue made through the business's website by 40% or we will continue testing (for free) until we do. [That is our guarantee]

You have that compared to going up to business's and saying "Hey we can provide you with an awesome looking website."

You can already see the value is much more defined and clear to the prospects when providing conversion optimization.

For all the people who are interested in creating some sort of offline business I highly recommend doing something like this instead of the hugely saturated "Let me make you a website" business.

If you interested in getting started with something like this there a few steps that can be done. Also, have no worries if you're thinking "well, I can't create some kind of guarantee like 40% increase in revenue through their website." Because you probably can.

First off, outsourcing. You will want to find a top notch quality outsourcer for this. I recommend just making some searches on Google for "conversion optimization services" etc. and giving some companies a call and asking if they have a white-label program and the costs associated with that.

The company I have found and been speaking to have agreed on some terms and I am now in their white-label program and they have the guarantee that I have spoken about above and we have agreed on the monthly price I am being charged for 3 months (a campaign) for my prospects.

Easy enough. Now, what do I have to do? All I have to do is find the prospects, prove the value, close the client, and create their campaign, and achieve the results needed.

================================================== ===============

If you're worried about actually getting in contact with some business owners here is what I recommend.

Direct mail + Phone call follow up.

To get into specifics. Find a list of ideal prospects that have enough traffic to their website that our services would be of help to them.

Write a sales copy (there are some great people on here that can help) and I recommend taking a picture of their current website and giving them 2 tips on how they can increase their conversions on their website (free of charge) and then hit them with the guarantee in the sales copy. You can even give them their own calculation of how much money this could make them.

Tell them to figure out how many visitors they have monthly, how many sales they get, and then find their revenue per visitor and tell them you can increase their revenue per visitor by xx% guaranteed. Have them multiply that # by 12 (12 months per year) and you have shown them how much money they can add to their business per year guaranteed. This instantly justifies your prices.

[Credit to Jason Kanigan for that ^]

Send out the direct mail piece to some businesses and follow up with a phone call and get closing.

*IMPORTANT*- Don't have some type of guarantee like the one I stated in this thread if you don't actually think you can live up to it or the business you are outsourcing this service to can. Also, don't have this guarantee if you don't have the financial backing to fix something that has gone wrong or dealing with an upset client. And, always use contracts.

Just so everyone knows, I really rushed writing this thread and I probably missed out on some critical things I should of said. So i apologize in advance for that.

-Connor.

Rock on, Connor! I'm surprised there haven't been any web design warriors commenting on this post.

Seems to be a slow day on the net... Maybe everyone is out enjoying the sunshine. :-/

That's a ballsy guarantee. Let us know how it works out in a few months because right now this is just theory that may seem nice on paper but reality can turn the tables on you.

The problem I see with doing this, is that most businesses, offline, will not have the traffic necessary to effectively A/B split test. If the business is getting maybe 30K+ visitors a month, then I think it would be possible to come close to the 40% because you could run a test every 2 days. Standard procedure in CRO would be a sample size of 1,000... for a regular business that's very difficult to do on a daily basis and most don't even do that monthly. Your other option would be to include PPC with that for testing purposes.

I do unfortunately disagree with you though on finding a top notch outsourcer. You're going to have trouble with this for multiple reasons.

1.) If you do this, and the outsourcer fails, the client doesn't care about the outsourcer, they care about you and not being able to follow through.
2.) I've built a team of outsources and constantly look for new ones that can help in different areas and it is very, VERY difficult to find one that can handle stuff start to finish with quality work. Conversion rate optimization is going to be even more rare to find. Hell... if you got to freelancer or odesk, I would bet you can't even find someone who does SEO and doesn't use techniques that have been outdated since 2010.
3.) You're paying whatever service for 3 months, but if they don't achieve results, then what? Move to another service? Continue paying until the results are met?
4.) How do you know what their revenue is now? What if they don't wish to disclose that?

I'm not trying to put you down... It's great to be thinking of ways to position yourself and pivot but I'm not quite sure this is the way to go with that type of guarantee.

A great way to set yourself apart from everyone else that does websites, is to not wait around for them to come to you. Very few people are actually comparing companies when you're the one to reach out, whether it is by phone, email, ad, mail, etc.

CRO is super tricky... common ideas on increasing conversions are often incorrect statistically.

Good luck to you though, I definitely am not ballsy enough to do that.
