Lets Talk EAT

After a long absence from the Warriorforum, I have now returned to talk about the EAT aspect of SEO.

This is clearly the "new SEO" and what is working for big websites.

After reading tons of articles they all seem to say the same thing. You need to become an authority by becoming a known expert in your field through various ways.

But, I have yet to come across any information showing technical aspects of this.

For example, many of these articles mention you need to have an author bio on your articles, and the author needs to be a known expert. You need to show this off by linking out to sources that prove this? I dont quite get that.

So are we suppose to have outbound links in the bio box? How many links? To what sites?

They also say we need to have an about us page. Fine, but what information EXACTLY needs to be on this page for it to increase your EAT? Linking out to who? Showing proof how?

Its all kind of weird.

Can anyone explain the specifics on this EAT aspect of SEO?

    "Authority" / "Expertise" can come in a few ways. You can be educated, you can have experience, or you can document a process of learning.

    Ill pick a not so random good exampled subject say... Van Life... if you look up sites / videos on the subject you will find 2 of the 3 for sure ( Experience, and Documented ). An experienced "Author" will own a shop that modifies vans buses pickup trucks etc. OR has previously documented something and is producing how-to type content.

    A Document based website / YouTube channel will show THEIR process of building out the van and will probably get into the traveling around and Documenting the journey.

    In BOTH cases "EAT" is being utilized. One IS experienced, and the other is documenting the process and by proxy developing experience.. and in both cases Trust is quickly being developed.

    Again using an example someone like Bill Nye ( the science guy ) went to Cornell University and got a degree in Mechanical Engineering and apparently took Astronomy classes ended up working at Boeing and fell into what he does now... So Bill has "Education" behind what he does.

    An example that parallels Bill Nye minus the education is "CrazyRussianHacker" aka Taras Kulakov. This guy was a "Professional Swimmer" and worked at Walmart. He just put in the hard work and started making videos ( a tried and true method btw ) and I would say is on par at this point with Bill Nye.

    In terms of linking out in the Author box... I would suggest it is NOT needed if you are across multiple platforms IE on YouTube, and Insta, and Facebook ( all tho these could be considered outbound links that show an amount of authority and develop trust ) but if you HAD TO, you could pretty easily create a Wikipedia page for yourself ( https://thecreativeindependent.com/g...-on-wikipedia/ )

    A body of work overall speaks volumes to a persons credibility. A body of work across a number of platforms ( that actually have followers ) speaks volumes. Having a series of content related to a single topis does wonderous things. ( see a personal example of that here: https://www.warriorforum.com/warrior...days-ebay.html ) or look at ( https://www.warriorforum.com/warrior...bscribers.html ) and see again continual posting and updates goes along way.

    After looking at those posts, you understand that if you have a question about eBay, you will probably TRUST that I would #1 be able to provide and answer and #2 Trust the answer when you got it. In Michaels case you might goto his site and see the equipment he is using and Trust it enough to value his set up as a starting point for you... ( which I am guess would lead to a link on Amazon and produce some amount of income for him LOL )

    So.. TRUST becomes a variable that is earned - and it is earned based on the content you provide. Authority is a variable that is earned - based on the context of the content that you provide. and Education is either a journey that you are on in sharing the content, or is a place of sharing IE you HAVE knowledge and are sharing it.

    ( example ) I am a Van customizer and here is how I build a bed. OR, I bought this van and I am going to convert it, join me and we can learn together how to put a bed in the back of this.

    In todays content rich environment these 2 are pretty much one in the same, In terms of Authority and Trust. I might even go so far in saying that the lets do this together approach is maybe more trusted.

    You could link to a testimonials page, showing that you have provided good results for your clients. Or, you could link to research that you've performed, case studies, an ebook that you've written, etc.

    Most of the EAT stuff is complete bullshit.

    It was part of the Google search raters quality guide, so all the "gurus" out there seized on it and started writing articles about it, doing YouTube videos, and putting out podcasts. Now people think it is something they have to actually worry about.

    What most people do not realize is that the search raters quality guide is not part of the search algorithm. Just because someting is outline in the guide does not mean it has any impact on rankings.

      People need to worry about somethig or else they are not happy.

      They need to save face with themselved too.


      This kind of thing, EAT, does both so why not?

      On top of it, get a good backlink is too simple to be true or worthy of putsuing, it seems.

        No one has said backlinks are dead.

        Also, they mentioned that poor quality content from years ago could be pulling down the quality of your entire site? What's your opinions on that? Remove the old content? Re-write?

          First question: is the content ranking? If yes, I'd leave it alone (unless you really know SEO. And I mean really really really.) and I'd just add a big banner at the top, directing people to better content on my site.



          If it is not ranking, replace it.

          People, I think, confuse quality content and quality writing. I see a lot of mortgage sites where the content is well-written but just fluff or downright wrong. I came across sites about mesothelioma (over one hundred per click, for adsense!) written by some guy who used to be a roofer or something like that. Never crossed his mind that he'd lose to an article written by a doctor or an attorney who had won a couple of cases.


          Seems to me the OP is kind of getting confused about that.


          OP: if your subject matters requires specialized knowledge, it is better if you have proof you have it. If it requires experience, it is better if you show you have it outside the article.



          I mean, leave websites for a second. If you needed knee surgery, would you go to someone who has MD after their name or someone without? An doctor who's a knee surgeon or a bariatrics doctor?


          If you wanted to build a desk, would you follow instructions from someone who's build a dozen of them or from someone who's watch a tv show about building them?
