Well I think "POORLY DESIGNED WEBSITE" is not SEO mistake, since google doesn't bother how do your website look like. Perhaps it's "POOORLY STRUCTURED WEBSITE" that you mean.

I have several website, truly ugly website, just contains 6 pages, but well structured and it beats other big websites that look so professional.

    Hi makhussy

And welcome to thew Warrior Forum

Thank you for your list of SEO blunders, a nice list,
pity that some of it is way off base.

You could turn this good post into a great post
by researching and fleshing out your list.

Why are frames bad for SEO for example?
Dup content penalties are a myth.

    HTH

Agreed. OP might actually know something about SEO if he did that. Too bad we can't assign homework around here. For now I'll have to conclude he knows ctrl-c and ctrl-v

In fact here is a decent list of myths put together by someone that does seo for living and is reputable.

Two words immediately spring to mind here:

    'Copy' and 'Paste'.

    Garry.

    P.S. Think about it!

Having these too long won't kill your SEO efforts, maybe hinder them slightly.

There is no duplicate content penalty. This will not affect your position in the SERPs. If you have Dup Content on your site, Google will simply index 1 instance of the content. Duplicate content only counts for content on 1 site, not across other site too.

This shouldn't stop you ranking well.

In itself, this shouldn't hinder your SEO efforts - flash is becoming easier to SEO all the time. Use SWFObject to embed it into HTML and offer an HTML version of your content.

There's no reason that links out of your site, relevant or otherwise will affect your standing in the SERPs.

You only need to do this when you add new pages or move pages. And this isn't a necessity for ranking well.

Fresh content does not equal rankings

There's no reason why your site needs to validate - Google have said this isn't necessary (but I recommend it for standards compliance anyway)

It helps to have your keywords in your domain for sure, but I don't know how you'd make it un-search engine friendly...

The design of the site has little to do with SEO. Google doesn't judge design.

Hope that clears things up a little

It is good to have lots of feedback on a post so us 'growin newbies' don't get too far led astray hi! hi! (makes yer head spin sometimes ....)

So what would a good list of top 10 SEO mistakes look like then? (And the natural antidote? ... without any side effects hopefully)

@edgray This has nothing to do with SEO (Image size) It does, if you have a slow loading website due to image size, that is considered unfriendly by google and not liked.
