Hi folks. I have a quick question....I am researching a certain niche....it is

competitive...not like "making money online" or "weight loss" but

competitive non the less. My question is can I still see sales/profit

(affiliate marketing) even though I am not ranked high on Google? I will/hope to be using articles for traffic.

Thanks.

Regards...

If you go for the lower competition keyword phrases initially and then work your way up the difficulty levels as you get more authority, then sure why not.

After page 1 its difficult. Below page 2 the traffic
you'll get from direct keyword searches will be
almost 0(exception for highly competitive keywords).

That said, you can still get long tail traffic. Most
folks end up getting more long tail traffic than
traffic for the keywords they originally optimized for.

OK, go after very long tail keywords first which are easy. Then after you build authority go after the middle tier which should get you some traffic which is nice. The important thing is for your site to be number one. That position get 50% of the clicks. Out of 10,000 clicks 5,000 go to position one, 3,000 to position two, and 1,000 to position three - so there you go. There is very little traffic to position seven. If your web page is below the fold, people do not see you.

even for competitive keywords you could rank good if you have unique content plus quality backlinks but it takes time

It all takes time, just keep doing things in a consisitent manner. Then again realise when it's really going to take you a long time to earn you're first dime in that niche. Make sure you're not wasting your time to get this up when you could spend this time researching other keywords that could be positioned much higher much quicker and earn you money much quicker. Good Luck!

Can you see sales/profit? Of course.

Don't let ranking on google be the judge on whether you can make money or not. Can't rank on the first page of google? So what. There's youtube, facebook, twitter, craigslist, ppc, media buying, and list goes on and on.

It's been taking over SEO. Long tail keywords are commonly used nowadays to target certain niches and to gain profits. it's been proven to be more effective compared to its one word counterpart.

      Actually I couldn't disagree more.

The thing about long tail traffic is it will come naturally to your site as your pagerank increases.

For me, long tail is about 60 percent of my total traffic. Of which I target zero of it.

The reason it comes is because I have enough links to boost my pagerank, which causes the articles and blog posts in my site to rank for other keywords people are searching for in long tail.

You will be chasing pennies on the floor all day long if you go after long tail after long tail...

Long tail keywords are those three - four key phrases which are very specific to whatever you are advertising for or/and selling. You see, whenever a purchaser uses a highly explicit search phrase, they tend to be looking for exactly what they are actually going to buy.

Using long tail keyword has always been advisable, and seasoned online marketing professionals know it's clever to use key phrases that target potential customers who are "late" in the buying cycle.
