Hello everybody, to bring some stability in my life I am planning to join an internet advertising company.

I have been studying seo for 2 years now, but as you guys know interviewer might ask some pretty specific questions.

So I was wondering how should I prepare.

Here are two things I myself have come up with:
1. Learn SEO Glossary.
2. Let them know the strategy I have for dealing with the latest penguin update.

    Internet Advertising Company?

Wouldn't this suggest you should study Copywriting instead?

Ya, copywriting is also a part of it, but even though you may call it an seo company or anything else the thing is I will start of as an seo expert since it is already a skill I possess.

If that is the most detailed response you can give to that question, you might as well skip the interview. You have no shot.

I won't be as blunt, but IMHO, the only 2 things in this interview
would be tons of examples of my successes and failures. Yes,
failures, but show that my success far outweigh anything.

Maybe you can clarify the "internet advertising company." Not exactly
        SEO there.

Thanks for your response and I do get my response was not up to the mark, but can you help me out for preparing for an interview.

Sorry to say but you sound like a VA who does AMR blasts by giving such answer.

Anyway, to get back on topic, I think there is only ONE important question that they will ask you and that is:

"How will you increase the traffic and visibility / rankings of our clients websites?"

Better make sure you have a damn good answer to that. My answer to be able to give a more detailed answer afterwards would be (although I am pretty sure that answer / re-question sucks). What is the budget I'll be working with?

I mean, if you have to do all by hand without a budget you can't start talking about utilizing high PR domains, Pressreleases and such.

The rest are just the standard side things like:

Question: Why do you want to work for us?
Answer: Cause I can't find anything better

Question: What attracts you in SEO?
Answer: Fighting all the Penguins and Pandas

At least you have an idea of the wrong answers now

You really need to expand on this more. All interviewees will probably say something like this. Expand on this so you stand out and are memorable.

There's a big difference being an "SEO expert" hanging around on WF and putting up a few self-made blogs for affiliate commissions and being an "SEO expert" working for a blue chip style corporation.
I doubt too many of the latter had many problems with the latest Panda or Penguin updates. It's like a whole new ball game. What kind of company are they - size, clients, services, products, manufacturing?

Well sure, but is that really what we're talking about here?

Is it a cushy corporate job, where Anoopchawla would have his own Google rep and millions to spend on SEO and PPC, or is it just a local agency gig?

Because it sounds like the latter. And that's the best way to start, IMO. Work full-time at a startup agency, work long days, get paid ****... Then graduate as a pro and land that cushy corporate gig.

The company I would be working with will be an seo company which has a turnover of around 1 million-3 million.

I am not looking for a big corporate company, as I am just starting out for a job.

The things with optimizing sites is most of the time we consider only on page optimization, content, and backlinking strategy, but while giving an interview for an seo expert, the interviewee might ask very specific questions that only the person who is in a habit of remembering specifics like can answer perfectly.

I am more of a bigger picture guy, I can get the stuff done and find other things needed in the process.

So what I am asking from you guys is to create a list of seo specific question that interviewee might ask, so that my first impression doesn't cause any issue.

P.S. Since I love this industry learning new things is always fun.

Be natural, enthusiastic and know what to say when they ask you the questions that most companies do (why do you want to work with them, why do you think you are the right match, where do you see yourself in 5 years, etc.).

    Good luck!
