Google has been coming up with the changes very frequently. They say that they are making web spam free but do they want to kill the SEO industry?? Because ultimately its killing the SEO, the hard work done by SEOs on websites for long times gets in vain in just a single night. Isn't it injustice??

I agree with you that the recent Penguin Update and the series of Panda Updates are a big blow on SEO but many of the websites who followed white hat techniques for promoting their site through SEO are still having their rankings intact. But also many good sites have also suffered because of this update. The ultimate aim of Google is to gain more revenue using the Google Adwords and AdSense as when a website is down in ranking it automatically provokes the common mass to advertise and go for PPC rather than going for SEO.

You are ridiculous. An injustice? Because Google cracked down harder on some of the things they have been preaching against for years? Spammy links (like the one in your signature) is not "hard work done by SEOs on websites for long times".

For all the people that got hit by Google's updates, there are plenty who saw their rankings improve greatly.

Quit crying, figure out what you are doing wrong, and knock it off.

I actually loved the Panda and Penguin updates because it separates the fly by night SEO with those people who really worked hard to earn their rankings.

They don't want to kill the SEO industry. They are getting rid of the fly-by-night SEOs, and those using unethical tactics to boost their SERP rankings.

Their latest moves will likely affect some innocent websites, but it will positively impact the rankings imo. The best thing to do is to make sure you have great content, and utilize social media effectively.

Yup, and it's weird how the search results show up now. My friend owns a classifieds site and did all the hard work (one page and off page SEO), all by himself, not much outsourced. His site was ranking pretty well in few cities showing on 1st page mostly at 3rd or 4th position. Now, his site shows up on 3rd or 4th page.

And funny thing is, the sites that now show up on first page show up at least 6 - 7 times, different links. Basically one site has taken up the first page. If the search engines are showing one site more than twice, of course other sites are going to be pushed to later pages. He is thinking of using Adwords now, and of course that means more money for Google.

Haha, welcome to the world of SEO...

SEO done correctly will NEVER be dead, google has to rank sites somehow. However, 99% of what you see being done and preached on these forums is not 100% whitehat and google doesn't allow it, the SEO providers will just never tell you that.

If you build links that google allows: press releases, authoritative blog comments, guest posts, web 2.0's with unique amazing content, etc..... you will never be penalized and in the end will always come out on top.

It's just people find an exploit in the system that is easy and fast, and they exploit it and sell it. SEO will never die... its a billion dollar industry.

Personally I wouldn't think of this situation in terms of justice/injustice. Google's algorithm updates are beyond our control and something we have to learn to live and work with.

If your sites are taking a hit in the SERPS whenever Google updates their algorithm, then examining the SEO tactics you are using may be worthwhile. Also, consider other traffic sources (e.g. social).

SEO is not dead and it still remains the best way to get free traffic. Google wants people to convert to PPC and some of us are giving them just that.

If you're SEO don't work, figure out what you did wrong, experiment, learn and improve yourself. We all work in an industry that's about experimentation and that reinvents itself every few years. This was bound to happen.

Let's take this as an opportunity to do something new and learn from this.

Google ultimate aim is to give accurate results to its users because people rely on google search results most of the time. Due to all the black hat methods and unnatural links even a poor website with content of no useful data and information get indexed at the first page according to Google algorithm. This made google to act rude on all spammers those who only need to make money without serving anything good to their readers. Surely SEO will not demise if people earning through websites give first priority to the end users. Gradual, Natural & Manual these three are the important aspect to optimize a site for search engines which also give unbelievable returns.

I have a mess of websites that I use SEO strategies on. The best results on sites ranking on first page come from PPC with Google Adwords and MS Adcenter.
I also get great results from Facebook ads for direct target marketing campaigns. However, my best results with the least amount of work have been from Google Merchant Center (Google Shopping. use to be Google Base).

I'm seriously thinking about adding a shopping or product page to all of my blogs and non e-commerce sites and uploading an xml product data feed to GMC and forgetting about SEO on these sites.

The problem is they've gone about it the wrong way. Spammy links should be just discounted, but instead they are penalizing sites for it which allows negative SEO unless a site has a strong authority.

I guess this link disinvow tool which Google mentioned will never be released because if it was then how could they stop people disallowing the spammy links which is causing filters such as penguin to trigger.

I think it's actually a good thing what google is doing. Although it has been a big pain in the ass for me but i learn through it every day. Every tom, dick and harry would buy some fiverr gigs, use spun articles, spam everywhere and still rank well in google, but thats not the situation anymore. i've heard some fiverr gigs are good but never tried it and never will. Just doin it manually and its been pretty good so far.

so is SEO dead? if you're a couch potato who's willing to pay some bucks on fiverr but isn't willing to make an effort yourself then yeah!! SEO's dead. Infact it never existed.

    NOOOOO!!!!!!!

SEO is not dead. In fact it's better than ever for those of us who have been getting spectacular results with white-hat SEO, now that most of the black-hat agencies have been slapped. Since Penguin hit in March we have had agencies approaching us asking to outsource their SEO to us since our clients were not affected and in fact their rankings IMPROVED as the competition was slapped down.

SEO is definitely not dead, but just trying to emerge with new colors. With the ground-breaking evolutions sparked by Google, it is definitely becoming complex and difficult to keep pace with the emerging dynamics.More Google tries to shape the rules of the road geared toward the dictum 'conten is king' , it will be better. So SEO is becoming more content oriented and social oriented, weeding out the blackhat craps.

So SEO is becoming more content oriented and social oriented, weeding out the blackhat craps.
People say this every update. I'm doing the same spam **** I was a year ago and I'm still ranking. Social signals are getting more important though.

According to the last research study done by Wordtracker, the CTR % for the top SERP spots has decreased since Google has been playing with the Opacity of Sponsored ads PPC ads.

Maybe in the future half of results will be PPC and half will be organic you never know. Then the dead of SEO will come literally.

If you do SEO the right way from start then you will not encounter any penalties. First and the most basic tip, read the google webmaster guidelines. Following those basic principles will save you from lots of headaches. I am not sure why so many sites get penalized when all you have to do is to follow the guidelines along with implementing intelligent SEO techniques of course.

    • SEO definitely isn't dead. The rules have changed, that's all. If you want ti succeed, you have to focus on quality not quantity. Provide valuable content to your audience, build high quality links, and make your website good enough for both search engines and human visitors.

Has everyone gone crazy and forgotten what the definition of SEO actually is?

    It's SEARCH ENGINE OPTIMISATION

So as long as search engines exist, we will be able to optimise for them.

You might as well say be asking "will every search engine explode at exactly the same time tomorrow?"

Edit: Actually I'm wrong, please proceed to delete all of your sites and cease all SEO/Link building activitys with immediate effect. That is all

SEO will never die.. When Search Engine Optimization becomes Search Engine over optimization, it gets punished by SE's. And Search Engines also let SEO to handle the SERP. But when it crosses the limit, get affected a little bit. Other than SEO, no terms is easy to promote our site in Search Engines. This is because of, according to the search engines' algorithm, SEO is the better way in manipulating the SERP. But Search Engines will catch when we do over SEO. So, SEO will survive till search engine's live.

Im not worried about it! Google still has its guide on SEO, they are not trying to kill it, no need for such drama haha,
They are just trying to combat against all the blackhat and spammy techniques which used to work in the past. If that is what you are talking about with 'hard work on SEO' then I suggest you check out the google policies, and start manual link building, writing unique original content, and focus on the user experience - its a winning situation for consumers and you should be happy about that

After the Penguin and Panda update my websites lost most of their rankings. I have realized that having all my traffic coming from Google search was not a good idea. Because of that I have started trying to use Youtube, Yahoo Ansers etc. to generate the bulk of my traffic. I don't think SEO is dead, it is just harder. I am trying to figure out ways to build real links to my website now instead of cheap profile links etc.
