Just wanted some advice on whether there is a good free alternative to SEO.

I'm wanting to get my blog more noticed and to start driving more traffic using organic methods.

Feedback really appreciated.

    free alternative to SEO.
SEO is the free alternative for paid traffic.
You can use FaceBook/twitter,although it usually goes with SEO

SEO (search engine optimization) is how you optimize your site for Google and other search engines to rank you well so your site gets free traffic from them.

Other free methods would include things like guest posts on other sites, article marketing, social sites (like Twitter, Facebook, etc), social bookmarking, video marketing, etc.

All of those things, along with SEO, should be used to get the most traffic and exposure possible.

Absolutely, and to clarify, search traffic is not dead, just because traditional SEO tactics are dead.

Google just wants you to focus on the user experience first and foremost. By doing this, not only will you receive more traffic from social media, but you'll also steadily increase your search traffic simply as a by product.

That's quite a claim to lay out there so casually. 'Traditional SEO tactics' haven't died at all. Keyword selection, on-page SEO and off-page optimization are all still alive and doing well.

Thanks everyone for some really great feedback.

Although there are a few contrasting statements within the thread, I think the main theme that sticks out is the fact that SEO is certainly worth it and I now need to start focusing on some of the elements that have been mentioned.

I can see that there are some experienced people replying here, so if it works for you then it'll certainly be worth my while.

Thanks again for the valuable feedback, much appreciated.

    There are many.

The one I use, on which almost my entire business is built, is article marketing, which is a traffic generation method that transcends SEO altogether. (If Google delisted all my websites tomorrow, I'd still have over 90% of my income - as you can see from the post linked to, it's not dependent on SEO).

    But there are others, too.

Hey Alex , your method is perfect. But if you are working alone it's not gonna work with most of the highly competitive top niches out there. You will need an army of marketers working with you in the exact same way. And that will cost you a lot of money. I made the word "most" in bold on a purpose because sometimes it DOES work though. It depends on what you are marketing a service or a product , how hard is the competition for your niche,..etc. A lot of factors go into this game and you must test everything yourself to see how it works. But anyway I must admit that Article Marketing is really working for a lot of famous & successful sites out there.

On the contrary ... one of the great specific advantages of article marketing is that it makes comparatively little difference how "competitive" the niches are.

The advantage of transcending SEO considerations is that "competition" doesn't matter much.

Sorry, Mamadou, I don't begin to understand what you're saying, here. All the successful article marketers I know are self-employed: none has other marketers working for them.

        This is mostly incorrent.

"Competition" is relevant mostly to SEO-based methods, not to article marketing.

There are even article marketers who deliberately choose the most competitive niches they can find, with the attitude that once the competitivity isn't relevant to them, they may as well just go for the niches with the biggest markets.

You could use social media, press releases, article marketing (as Alexa mentioned and the way Alexa does it), guest posting on related blogs, create videos related to your blog and publish on YouTube and other video sites and so on.

There are some of those traffic redirection techniques which some people use.

I dont know how people's experience with it are but I once used it and the results
were not good. Maybe the service I used wasnt something to recommend but
you could make a test run with it. I think there are some members here on WF
who sell for quite cheap. I think 1000 visitors cost under $2.

As you can see its very cheap but mostly its junk traffic as it doesnt convert well.

Without SEO the only thing that I can see is Face book, twitter traffic.
Social media traffics are cool and they are free too. So you can use them as an alternative.
    thanks

Social Media is the best alternative to SEO in these days. You can make twitter account, Facebook page, Pinterest Account, Youtube Channel to get more targeted visitors.

Currently it's very easy to rank Youtube videos no matter how bad they are. You can put a link back to your blog in the video description.

BTW if you value your time (and you should) then nothing is free.

  • The only alternative to SEO is link-baiting where you write such compelling content that people are drawn to it in droves and voluntarily give links. In the ideal world of Google acolytes that is the only way to get links but in real world we must gain links. And as Father of Capitalism said, "there is no free lunch." No one is going to give you a link for free. We must work for our links.

    Hi Dean,

You raised the question, can you get more traffic to your Blog, without having the expense of SEO. I think you have asked a very important question, and I have a very important answer for you. Check out my Blog: https://www.empowernetwork.com/johnseay/, it is an extension of thousands of blogs who blog daily and our Empower Network Blog is ranked higher than Facebook, somewhere in the 4,000 range.

You can blog all you want, and not have to worry about SEO, and at the same time, be able to attract "hoards" of traffic because of being a part of the Empower Blogging Network. Email me and I can give you more details.

There are many alternative ways to get traffic to your site. SEO is the most powerful traffic strategy you can have. But, if you have budget and don't want to invest the time into onpage and offpage SEO work, you can be drive traffic using a good PPC/SEM partner.

Once you are able to successfully rank for high traffic terms you will be pretty happy to see all that traffic. But SEO and ranking sites is only part of an overal online marketing strategy... you should aim to diversify your traffic sources.

Remember, Rankin' aint easy! Even ebay.com doesn't rank #1 for "online auctions" or "online auctions site"

I still don't get why people refer to SEO as 'FREE'. It's not free and in fact I currently find SEO that is done manually and correctly more expensive than Adwords.

Its a marketing term not directly related to a cash investment, even a FREE report isn't a FREE report if you need to submit your email to get it, drill down even further and you are paying for internet service as well to be able to download that report.

So no its not free, but its free from a cash investment perspective.
