Is it a bad idea to post an article on an article directory and then post the same one on my blog? Is duplicate content still a concern? Thank you for your thoughts on this!

Whichever page has the better SEO will be the page that ranks best in Google SERPs.

Example, old article directories probably have instant authority for newer pages on their domains. Odds are old article directories have been ranking similar pages/content/keywords/niche for years so it makes ranking new pages easier for them.

IMO, your creating unnecessary SERP competition by posting your content on other domains.

I would post any fresh content on my site first.

Then wait for it get indexed which should take less than 24 hours. All you need to do is put 10-12 words from a sentence into Google and see if it pops up.

Once it is indexed see if you can find some websites that would like to use your article (guest blog). There are some out there but most do like unique content.

Guest blogging equals reaching people interesting in your niche.

Then and only then look to put your article on article directories as then other sites may re-publish your article too.

This is my 2 cents worth and how I would approach it.

Yes - a very bad idea. You should do it the other way round. Article directories don't require unique content, and for all the reasons explained throughout this thread, it would be a mistake to give them any: http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...marketing.html

You seem to be confusing "duplicate content" with "syndicated content". The differences between the two are briefly explained in this post and this little article .

Posts #2 and #6 of this thread may also help you, I think: http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...ml#post5068872

And if ever you want a really long, leisurely read around the subject, in this older thread a whole succession of experienced, successful, professional article marketers explain at length and in detail why they (rightly) always post their articles on their own sites first, before submitting them to other places: http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...eza-first.html

YES. Duplicate content is one of the major concerns now. The post Panda-Penguin era changed a lot of rules on the way we do SEO, and this includes content. So avoid duplicate content. As much as possible only post unique and quality content to your site. Good luck!

However if it's your own article but still if you post it on other directories and on your own blog, it's still considered as duplicate. So you have to choose any one between your blog and directories, but if you post the original article on your blog it will have a great impact.

      This is completely wrong.

Like countless other article marketers here, almost every article I've ever used in my business over the last 5 years has initially been published and indexed on my own site (in order gradually to accumulate the initial indexation-rights for my own property, in the way Google consistently recommends/advises), then widely syndicated elsewhere (that's what article marketing is!), and eventually submitted to Ezine Articles too, as an additional afterthought, just in search of additional passive syndication opportunities (which is what article directories are for, and is how they work!).

As people keep trying to explain to you, the idea of "choosing one" between your blog and article directories is nonsense based on your confusion between duplicate and syndicated content, explained here.

Nobody who understands how an article directory works and why they exist is going to put unique content into a directory, for all the reasons explained throughout this thread.

As explained above (for the benefit of the few people willing to read the thread before replying to it), if ever you want a really long, leisurely read around the subject, in this older thread a whole succession of experienced, successful, professional article marketers explain at length and in detail why they (rightly) always post their articles on their own sites first, before submitting them unchanged to other places: http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...eza-first.html

Your adherence to this delusion makes it close-to-impossible even to discuss it with you intelligently or productively: your beliefs about what you mistakenly refer to as "duplicate content" are out of step with Google's, out of step with those of everyone earning their living through article marketing, out of step with those of the authors of every standard, accredited SEO textbook I've seen, and (unsurprisingly) totally out of step with reality.
