I think number 4, investing in and experimenting with new tools and strategies is more of an ongoing focus rather than one specific to this year.

I'm kinda going at local keywords from a different angle. Right now I'm focusing on ranking my own domains & then I'll either sell the domains or rent the domains to local business owners. To answer your question, no, I'm not taking on clients. Really I'm just selling targeted traffic to a single niche.

This way I'm guaranteed to start with a clean slate, there's no guessing/cleanup what a previous SEO or small business owner has done to their own site (no offense to anyone).

IMO it shouldn't matter to a small business owner If my page ranks or their page ranks as long as they're receiving traffic from targeted keywords. Targeted leads is the ultimate goal. I can also give a local business owner a better price than each specific keyword PPC cost.

I'm focused on a local niche where business owners are very competitive with each other (offline advertising, etc...) but most of the business owners are only ranking in the SERPs because the other businesses don't know how to rank a page.

My long term plan is to target a single local niche across all 50 US states, each city I target will have it's own domain. Once the page is ranked per city then I'll go looking for local buyers, businesses that already have a website but don't rank on the 1st page of the SERPs. I figure If a business has a website they're interested in search traffic, a ranked page will sell itself.

I've just recently started with local, the keyword volume is a bit different/lower than global keywords but that's ok because the local PPC cost is high. The first city/keyword I'm targeting for this niche has a PPC cost of $10+, that gives me a lot of flexibility on my own profit margin & a good deal for local business owners.

This is crazy. I had this exact idea the other day.

I'm only going to rent the domain monthly to clients. It's a stellar business model to rent out the number one site. As soon as you talk to one business owner and they don't want it, I'm going to their competition who will. The idea sells itself. And best of all it's no risk to the client as they are getting basically a landing page that they can brand. It flips PPC on it's head I think. Just genius in so many ways.

I only hope we aren't targeting the same niche.

If you are really serious about driving targeted traffic to your site then you have to keep up to date with the happening whether mobile or desktop SEO, i see them as the same.

If you don't have the capacity to do all at a time you can focus on them one after the other.

I'll be focusing on the same things I focused on last year.

1. Local SEO (3/4 of my income).
2. Video Marketing / SEO (1/4 of my income).

And I will most likely get started making my own PBN's. I outsource most my work now but I really need to start and manage my own private networks for security reasons.

I don't think buying likes or retweets does any good for your campaign. It will be unrelevant...and if uninterested audience comes to your site and bounces back in 3 seconds this is a bad signal, not a good one. Google can measure many things and they pretty much know when visitors are engaged and when they are not. They like to see engagement on your site...

I think so buying like, retweet and g+ can create unrelevant signal. Difficult to get like from social media in my country

Once upon a time Google was doing something with Twitter, but their relationship went sour. The legends about "social signals" are from this long bygone era.

Likes do absolutely nothing - there's not even a mechanism for them to influence search. Retweets are a nofollow link that's temporarily on a semi-relevant feed page, but usually quickly drops from there to obscurity. Buying visibility from these places is sometimes risky, but always quite futile.

I have to disagree with you on that one. I made quite a lot of testing regarding seo and social signals. They exists and I saw ranking improved when generating traffic from different SM (Pinterest, Facebook and Tumblr). It is my personal experience!

It's funny how even the anecdotes are always on this level.

Tumblr is a blogging service so I see no need to call a backlink "social signal". Pinterest generates a lot of traffic in some niches, and there seems to be nothing to block the indexation as far as I can see.

Facebook is very hard for Google to index in any meaningful manner. They can certainly find some public FB pages, but I don't see any reason for them to go any deeper in the service. Basically it boils down to this: it's much simpler for Google to not do any "social signals" stuff, and doing it just breaks their model and causes all sorts of problems.

The main point is to generate targeted traffic and it’s totally depends on the project you are working on. If you are working for a gaming site, then you can generate more targeted traffic from social media on the other hand, if you are working with a software product then you can concentrate on off page activities rather than social media.

I dont' use social media for social signals and all that ranking crap.

I want to use it hoping that those that DO like my FB page or instagram have another way of accessing my site..and perhaps those that do have facebook or instagram also have a blog/site that can link back to my site. So it's all relationship basis on MY end that is. I don't know how the hell you guys would utilize your social media strategies but that's what I'll be doing for one of my sites.

Doing the same thing as GGpaul, although I've not been successful. I guess I need more cat pics.

If you're doing social media "outreach" you might see increase in SERPs because you're getting your link out there. There's often correlation and even an indirect causal relationship, but there's simply no need for this "social signals" story. There's a much simpler explanation.

If I'd know better, I would be more concerned about the type and quality of content I am producing for my audience. Local SEO does has its benefits only if you are targeting regional visitors. Then comes the social media and all, which is also in my to-do book.

Definitely mobile and social media for me. Mobile because of how fast it's growing. Social media because it's fast-paced, but not extremely difficult to keep up with since so many tools are available to automate a lot of tasks.

I am going to build multiple niche targeted authority sites for the rest of this year and then use them as a PBN to hit a big niche next. I also constantly testing multi level link building services along with a few other secrets. I have seen a lot of people mention social signals as a SEO source. Please remember to treat it as you would link building..... Natural with unique content is the way forward. Blasting signals with social sharing sites "could" have a negative effect.

Local is steadily gaining importance, although "personalization" or "customizing according to user" is still ahead.

Some of the seemingly spammy strategies are still working good for audiences of other countries. I am not sure if it is a good or bad thing, but the positive and negative aspects almost often affect the audience of USA first, with the rest following in an unpredictable manner.
