# How is PageRank divided on outgoing links?

• |
I saw PageRank algorithm description saying that the Pagerank is divide evenly across all the outgoing links.

Is that true even for low outbound links (Is having 1 outbound link 5x more powerful than 5 outbound links?)

And should I still be linking to high authority sites (like wikipedia) to make my site more natural?

What is the best maximum of outbound links before it really starts hurting my page?
• would anyone have any experience with this?

• The amount of PR that a page passes on through its links is divided up among all the links, but it is not equal. Nobody knows the exact formula, but Google weighs each link on the page differently.

• No one knows how Page Rank is distributed at all. It's a closely guarded secret by Google (And you can imagine how hard it would be to dissect the algorithm too)

True, we don't know exactly how the PR is distributed among links. However, I wouldn't go so far as to say "Just don't think about it." However the PR is distributed, the algorithm must certainly include number of outbound links on the page. Would you rather get a link from a PR5 page that had 3 outbound links, or from a PR5 page that had 300 outbound links?

• It relays on the authority of the page, anchor used and (TOP SECRET) from the page it's linking to.

P.S don't ask specifics because I have no ******* idea.

• Ok thanks,

My ranking dropped for my main money site after I added more outbound links on my PR site. Is that the reason why? or is it something else?

Statistics show that linking out is correlated with improved rankings. After all, it makes sense. If you link to Wikipedia, for example, you're offering your readers another source of information that may benefit them (thus providing a better user experience).

Equally, there are people who swear that no outbound links is best for salvaging as much pagerank as possible.

Nobody truly knows.

Just got back from a #BrightonSEO. I was given room 404 in the hotel I stayed at. Couldn’t find it anywhere!
