Some of my most effective work times have come from a random burst of motivation that in turn caused me to focus on just a single thing. This sounds a lot like those few episodes.

This might be out of left field but I found "The Fountainhead" by Ayn Rand to be a life-changing book.
It's a brick of a book (700 or so pages) and many of the things I "learned" from this book...
