Protecting Download Links

First of all - I'm technically challenged - still - so be nice!

Hi - I want to provide people who opt-in (or purchase) access to a download link for a Product most likely in pdf format.

But I don't want those who neither opted-in - or paid (depending) to have access to the download link.

If I just set up a simple html page on a website that includes access to the pdf file or zip file - I'm not protected - right???

Assuming the main site uses Wordpress, I was planning on putting the download links in their own locations by adding html pages through FTP

for example: www.MYDOMAINNAME.com/amazingreatreportlinkishere. html

How can I protect that download link?

Or is there a better way to deliver product?

    A few ways you can do this.
    - Use a tool like dl-guard. DLGuard - Download page protector, create expiring download links (no aff.)
    - Remove that page from search engine results by making a robots.txt (google it).
    - Make the file name a long random string to prevent guessing (like HF98FHSDNF8984N2873YKS89.html)
    - Password protect the directory in cPanel and send the password via email to all buyers/opt-iners.

    Also there is no way to completely protect your product. Companies like Microsoft and Adobe have spend millions to combat the issue with little success.

    Don't lose sleep over it. Just take a few steps that will deter most free-loaders.

    You can try the free plugins in WordPress repository. Easier to go with it.
    I searched through there for you and found this one. Didn't personally checked, but it has enough amounts of 5 stars and fresh feedback.
