Hi,

I am curious as to what Website Builder people most prefer? What are some of the most popular easy-to-use systems other than Wordpress?

Thanks

Joomla is another widely used CMS as well as Drupal. I've used both Joomla and Wordpress - both are pretty similar but I think Wordpress is more user friendly, especially for new users. Both are great for SEO.

I'm sure Drupal is as good as the others but I don't have any experience with that platform.

I've built a custom cms by myself with more advantages and very easy to control than wordpress but with time, I found that we should use a existed cms like wordpress because it's developed by a web developers community and more people will make more things better than 1 person

I would prefer to stay with WordPress, because it is actively maintained, and it would be reasonable to expect that it will continue for the foreseeable future.

It is extremely easy to customize by using child themes and adding plugins.

Best option would be to let the experts build it for you and let them show you how to constantly update it with content etc.

I prefer the flexibilty of old school: html, javascript, jQuery, php, ASP.Net MVC.

If it fits a mold or template, ie been done before - I'm not interested Boundaries are there to be pushed.

I do appreciate other people have lives ergo better things to do than coding css pages etc Drupal is powerful - but is more needy than Wordpress, both technically and time spent setting it up.

I am a software developer so I have created my own sites and apps. But as an Internet Marketer I prefer WordPress for its speed and ease. When I want to throw together another niche site I can do it in less than half an hour. For my own products I design a site from scratch using my own coding.

I am just beginning to use and design sites with WP but would like to install and use a local hosting app such as bitnami, wamp or xammp. I've been to YouTube and viewed videos on all three but not sure which is the best and easiest to use. Also concerned with reliability. All claimed to be best and easiest.

I went to bitnami and downloaded their software but ended up with their cloud stacker software. I haven't a clue what that is and support at their site is limited. Can someone tell me what it is and if I downloaded the correct version of what I want. I just want to be able to build sites on my pc before publishing them.

Have you ever used a local hosting platform to build your sites before uploading and publishing? If so, which and what would you recommend? I have never built a site in any format/platform but want to begin with WP. This will be my first site and before paying for hosting I want to practice and learn what I can as far as design, graphics and all else involved with building a successful website. I have plenty of tutorials on WP site building but zippo on local hosting.

Has anyone else here used a Local Host software to build sites before publishing? If so, any pointers on the subject would be greatly appreciated.

        Thanks, swtp43

When I saw the title, I assumed that you said about Wix, Webs or Weebly etc. Yet, you're talikng about Wordpress.

As for popularity, it's that there are three Wordpress, Joomla and Drupal which their names are appealing in the free opensource CMS.

Among the three of them, Wordpress is more easier. But, it depends; if you want just simple static websites with some pages, I'd prefer plain Html/Css sites because using CMS for those kind of sites are overkilled.

Joomla and Drupal are widely used by advanced users.

Do you have a reason why you wouldn't want to use WordPress?

There are a number of content management systems all with their own pros and cons.

I use three different content management systems in my job and my agency is pushing to learn a fourth.

Here's what I use and what I use them for.
      • Wordpress
      • DotNetNuke
      • Magento

Wordpress I use to create small to medium sized websites and blogs, it is absolutely fantastic out of the box for seo and has the largest marketshare which is why you hear so much about it.

What I like about it is how easy it is to learn and manipulate it to your designs.
The cost of hosting a wordpress website is relatively cheap.

Because of the way wordpress works in the way of its sidebars and widgets it falls apart in terms of absolute flexibility which is why I use the next choice as my main cms for building websites.

DotNetNuke is used mainly for building websites for medium to larger corporations and has a range of security features, modules and tools designed specifically to benefit much larger businesses.

Just like Wordpress it has a large community of custom developers and offers a range of skins and plugins through it DNN Store marketplace.

It takes a bit more work to get a DNN site moving u the ranks in Google but it can perform SEO wise just as well, particularly since the latest release.

Where it shines its it modular way of planning pages where you can literally drag and drop panes and content onto each page exactly where you want without having to go into the admin panel to configure widgets.

Magento is used by thouands to buld fully fledges ecommerce stores. If you are building a sho of any type, then I wouldnt even look at Wordpress or DNN (or any other CMS for that matter) before yo have had a good look at Magento.

Although many CMS offer plugins and addons to allow the CMS to work like a store, nothing beats the real thing!

Joomla, Drupal and many others are also good choices and it really comes down to what you are comfortable with. My own agency works with DotNetNuke because they have years of experience behind them using the system but the same can be achieved using others.

I am not a fanboy of any system. I like to learn what I can because it makes me more employable and I make more money. You will have clients tied to a CMS before you start a project that refuse to move, in those cases its best to buckle your seatbelts and carry on learning!

Sorry for my spelling I was typing way too quickly!

    There is Weebly.com, Yola.com, Webs.com, Wix.com and man others.

For the best, most supported and most customizable CMS, they are namely Joomla, Drupal and WordPress.

Really, you can go wrong with choosing WordPress as your preferred CMS. There are many multi-million dollar sites built with them.

I know that Content Management Systems have a lot of benefits, but I'm the same I just much prefer to hand code.

WordPress is pretty limited in some ways - some of the SEO plug ins are terrible and the people behind the plug ins don't seem to understand some basics like the canonical markup.

Wix used to be terrible - no SEO and a site that looked like it had been made by a child - has it changed much?

One that I definately wouldn't recommend is Modx - it's an absolutely terrible system.

Weebly is something I would suggest if you need a simple website with a blog.

The ease of the drag and drop design interface is really well worth paying for. But you can point your domain to weebly and use it for free. But for the free version you cannot amend the footer.

If you need a website builder I would recommend WYSIWYG Web Builder I have been using it for years. And my first affiliate site is still ranking well using WYSIWYG Web Builder 6. I recently just upgraded to version 9. With WYSIWYG Web Builder I have also done some commercial work helping customers build e-commerce websites.

For larger sites or sites that will be updated regularly, I use Wordpress.

For simple, small sites I either use an online website builder, like Free website | Free blog | Create a free website | Weebly or an HTML editor like Xara Web Designer or XSitepro.

Luckily, there are several good choices to pick from. In case you have several basic knowledge of eCommerce web design, you can create a internet site your self. Try your alternative. It can be liberal to test. You need to administrate your internet site. To hold back on along with spend the webmaster to produce alterations for your internet site isn't a extended needed. Prefer to spend time and effort on Search Engine Optimization or maybe retain the services of a specialist to complete it for you personally. If you don't finish up on the proper search for your current goods and services, an individual might not have a very web site, due to the fact no one might find it.

Personally I prefer Drupal. Joomla has extension that need to pay and it is hard to decide which ones are promising. Drupal modules are free of charge and hence you can see developers all around the world contribute in making the module better.

Aside from Wordpress, Joomla and Drupal are both good solutions.

You could also go for Webs or Weebly which is a more simple based website builder. I stay away from them because you don't host the site yourself and you are very much limited to what you can do.

There are many website builders that are easy to use and users prefer to use them like templatetoaster, dream weaver etc.. I personally use templatetoaster for creating themes as it supports Wordpress, Joomla, etc. with plugins like Woocommerce, Virtuemart respectively. It's easy to use and understand.
