Phew!!!

Its been a long 8 weeks but finally after a very rainy summer where we live, my children returned to a new session at school.

I took the liberty of "time out" with them this year as quality time with family just cannot be bought....HOWEVER, boy did I underestimate the newly acquired energy levels and "hyperness" which summer seems to bring to children along with what I'm assuming is a surge in pre teen hormones!!! Unbelievable!!

While really exhausting at times summer was great fun and helped to give me more perspective on the important things in life. Bizarrely and I may not be popular for saying this, spending time like this reinforced to me how much I love my own company at times to do what I need and want to do (career and personally) and how I also need the opportunity to to use my personal life to bolster my career and vice versa.

The giggles, hysterics, niggles, arguments, fights, laughter and the calm, serious moments were all a great tonic and so useful to demonstrate how much more you get out of yourself when you step out your usual shoes and jump into those of others - On this occasion I did this with the shoes of my kids (of varying ages from 3 to 10) and I can see why they think the way they think. On as serious note I also see how they are influenced so much by media, advertising and the internet which just surrounds them at every angle.

Internet marketing careers are so like the summer I spent. They can be full of uncertainty, extremely overwhelming at times and emotionally draining, especially when you are trying to make money and it ain't coming in, as you had hoped.

Yet the solution I had for the occasions over summer where I really had to take control over behaviour, are no different to IM. When something is causing recurring problems you need to stop and examine why the supposed solutions you are putting in place are not working. You need to look at yourself and ask what are you not seeing. Clearly you may have a "blind spot" if the same issue continues to emerge - whether its lack of traffic, software not delivering its promises or lack of creativity for product.

Take a "time out" (although no need to sit on naughty step, unless you have been really bad!!) and consider where you are heading versus where you need to go. Don't keep doing what you are doing as IT AIN'T WORKING!!!!!!

Time out doesn't just apply to kids it can be a really positive tool to take a change of scenery and use it to motivate your mind to overcome any hurdles you are encountering.

I loved my 'time out' and am back full of beans (well slightly tired due to the fact my children have way more energy than I do) but my mind is clear and ready to move forward.

To those still enjoying summer I sincerely hope your weather actually reflects the summer season unlike here in my fair "Isle".

Until next time...TIME OUT!! :p
