What I Do To Make $369.86 A Day

I've been asked what my day is like and what I do to have the success that
I have. Well, what follows is a breakdown of my day, more or less. The
reason I say more or less is because my day isn't written in total stone.
Stuff happens and sometimes I have to improvise. But for the most part,
this is what my day is like. Hope it helps.

To start with, I am disciplined to a fault. I almost have tunnel vision when it
comes to my day. I have to get my work done. Sometimes to the exclusion
of other things. One could say I'm obsessed...which may not be a good thing.
So before you attempt this...check with your psychiatrist.

6:30 AM - I wake up, wash up, and turn on the PC by 7 AM.

7 AM - 8 AM - This is where I do my promotion for the day. I have several
lead generation sites that I use to generate IM leads. I email these leads
during this time. It's all I do. It takes me about an hour. These leads
account for about $3,000 of my monthly income, so it is more than worth
my while to do this.

8 AM - 8:30 AM - I work on one of my membership sites making sure I
get the info to my members that they need to get on a daily basis. This
site earns me about $1,500 monthly. It's kind of like a side income for me.

8:30 AM - 9:30 AM - I do all my writing for Ezine Articles. I don't worry
about getting the articles submitted a certain time. With all the articles
that I have out there, I don't have to write as much as I used to for one
thing and I don't need to worry about placement time. My articles get
enough views.

9:30 AM - 11:00 AM - I do my writing for my own blog and for all the guest
blogs that I author at. I rotate these as I have so many I can't possibly
do them everyday. One member here I only get to about once a week,
sometimes not even that often.

11:00 AM - 11:30 AM - I have an early lunch. I also eat my breakfast
during the 7:30 AM to 8:00 AM time period. During lunch, I will answer
emails and relax, kind of.

11:30 AM - 5:00 PM - This is when I work on my product creation. Each
product has a schedule as far as what I work on. I'll get to when I make
that schedule soon. This way I know exactly what I have to work on for
each project, such as sales page, squeeze page, content, or whatever.
It's all written out so I don't have to think about it.

5:00 PM - 5:30 PM - I eat dinner, answer more emails, etc.

5:30 PM - 10:30 PM - This is my "me" time. What I mean by me time is
that I spend this time thinking of new ideas. Maybe something comes up
that I want to work on. This is the time I usually spend for doing niche
research. Lately I've been doing a lot of it. My frustration is that I come
up with so many ideas that I don't have the time to do them.

10:30 PM - ? - I work on my to-do list for the next day. Sometimes I can
finish this in 10 minutes and sometimes it takes an hour or more.

Now, while all this is going on, I am also multitasking the following things.

1. Moderating 3 forums.
2. Sending personal thank you emails for purchases.
3. Answering PMs.
4. Posting here. (it's about the only forum I really post regularly to)
5. Sending broadcasts (occasionally) to my lists.

And with all of that, I would say I only get about 20% done of what I'd
like to get done each day. There are not enough hours in the day for me.

Not even close.

Anyway, all of the above, this year, comes out to about $369.86 a day
in income.

Right now, I am working on two products. One is a short one and the
other is a major release (probably will be a physical product) for next
year. It's going to cover the whole 9 yards...manual, videos, DVDs, etc.
It's probably going to be my last IM product. I don't know yet. I have to
see how the launch goes, but that's a good 6 months away.

Well, that's my day. It's not for everybody. Honestly, I think it would burn
out most people on a month, but I'm a workaholic and enjoy what I do.

Next year though, I will be making MANY changes. I will probably outsource
everything but my writing, so I'll have more time to do more things.

Anyway, hope this has helped somebody.

** EDIT **

To stop others from asking me if I'm miserable and if my life is worth
living, I enjoy what I do and wouldn't do it if I didn't want to. I was
asked what my day was life and I have answered. If you don't like
my business model, fine. But don't try to tell me that I have no
life and that I'm miserable because you know nothing about my life
and what I enjoy.

BTW now that you are thinking of changing the way that you do things and outsourcing more stuff how do you envisage your daily plan will change?

Thanks for writing this down it will help a lot of people I'm sure.

Honestly, there is no way to know what my day will be like until I do it, but
I expect to basically take all the external stuff (sales pages, squeeze pages
etc.) done by other people instead of by myself.

      Why?

Well, while I write great content, I'm not the best copywriter in the
world. I'm okay, and do a good enough job to make sales, but I think I
could make more if I had a real pro do it. So that will be my main change.

The rest? No way to tell now.

    Wow Steve,

Awesome share. I really appreciate you pulling back the curtain on your work schedule so specifically like that. You are quite the workhorse, lol.

It's interesting to see where you spend your time. Out of curiosity, do you take off for the weekends?

I wish I had more of a disciplined schedule (I've come a long way these past two years), and this will help me with my motivation.

    Thanks!

To answer your question, I work weekends too. I do go to church Sunday
morning, but when I get home around noon, I get to to work. So Sunday
      is a slightly altered schedule.

        Great post and article
Exactly. For example, this Tuesday night I have to pick up my daughter
from college as she is coming home for the Thanksgiving holiday and
Thursday we're going to my inlaws for dinner. No way I'm working that day.

So I do take off when I feel like it.

        It's just not very often.

    Thanks, Steve, for your post!

How long has your schedule been set like this? What was your schedule (if you had one) when you first started out?

I have been struggling to set a schedule for myself since I'm still in school right now. I'm also interested in way too many products and haven't been able to focus on just one... so seeing what your schedule was like when you first started may help me figure one out for myself. Thanks!

Justin, this schedule has been like this, more or less, for a couple of years
now. My schedule when I first started, almost 6 years ago, was much
different. I spent most of my time learning. I only marketed about an hour
a day and didn't even write articles yet. My life was totally different.

My wife understands that I'm working towards us having an incredible
retirement. She makes a decent living as a school teacher (27 years on
the job) so between her and myself, we should be more than okay.

Besides, she's out a lot too because she belongs to organizations and does
a lot of charity work and my daughter lives at college. So I'm home alone
all day anyway. So this "work" keeps me from going crazy.

However, I have to ask. Are you happy?

I could not keep to that schedule and be happy. Perhaps its my youth and lack of discipline.

But the dream of internet marketing is that you can have more free time. It seems to me that you don't have that.

Are you planning on scaling back ever? or are you just loving every second of it?

Whatever unhappiness I have, has nothing to do with my IM business.
I have some personal stuff that I'd rather not get into here that at times
does get to me. It's my business that actually keeps me from wallowing

Haha. Kid! Steven is obviously happy with what he is doing, as I am too with just as long a schedule - but the secret is - it doesn't seem long!

Most of us older, boring folks have lived through the need to party, drink and just hang out, Dude. I think the thing is here with Steven and myself, and possibly many more on this forum - nothing beats the mental stimulation of being challenged, while making and creating little parts of the internet!

    Thanks, Steven!

Question -- do you drop everything when your timeframes are up and move on to the next block of time or finish your task? For example, at the end of your hour if you are right in the middle of writing an article do you carry that momentum and finish it or stick to your schedule and stop?

Reason I ask is that I always have tasks bleeding over and I just finish them out and it blows up my day. I've heard other philosophies that you stick with one thing until finished. What's your take?

Matt, as I said, this isn't written in stone. Sometimes stuff happens and I
either have to run over or I get something done quicker because something
isn't available for that day, like maybe 2 of the lead sites will be down.
That gives me time to start something else earlier. But for the most part,
      the above is my day.

If you, as knowledgeable and disciplined as you are, has an income

When you wrote of how you make $370 per day, I honestly thought

Jack, I'm very happy with what I make. I don't care that I'm not making
the big bucks that some of the big names are making. If I can pay the
mortgage (last payment is this December) and send my daughter to
college (in her 3rd year) and put food on the table for us all and maybe
be able to have a few "luxuries" then I am happy.

I'm not your typical person who has to have tons of money to be happy.
My hobbies cost me very little. Oh, that's something I will do during my
me time if I run out of ideas. I'll go into my recording studio and work on
a new song. I have one CD done already this year and I'm half way done

        Steven,

Many people tend to suffer from a compulsion to impose their own values on other people. The rancor surrounding politics is evidence enough of this.

My father passed away a few months ago. Just one month shy of his 80th birthday. Even though he most definitely could have very comfortably retired from his law practice decades earlier, he worked more hours every day than most up and coming apprentice lawyers until his last hospital stay. Because he loved his work, it was more relaxing to him than idly sitting on any beach.

Those were his values and I truly believe he wouldn't have made it as long as he did without his work. I have nothing but pure admiration for his work ethic. .

I'm a Tim Ferris fan myself when it comes to work scheduling in my own life although I haven't perfected it and frequently end up working more hours than he recommends, But since you are happy with your work schedule I wouldn't presume to force my values onto your life.

I can only congratulate you on your success and your own enjoyment of your own life. I can't wait to see your new product.

          Steven,

The answer to our friend from Seattle's barb was actually already there in your posts.

You are investing your time in your family's future.

Because you have an highly developed sense of responsibility you won't be one of those people who reach 65 and think "How will I look after my family now?"

Life is full of trade-offs. I would love to spend hours a day playing with my son, but I have to exchange some of my time with him now to guarantee his future.

As you said, there is a tipping point to look forward to where you will have more time and money. That's what we should all be aiming for - to become Andy Henry .

Wow, dude. You really love what you do and that is somewhat lost in today's society. Making the "quick buck" and completely unreasonable work ethics of most people today shadow the true workers that get a sense of accomplishment, and even a good feeling deep down inside, from putting in an honest day's work.

Be proud and know that you deserve it! (I think you know already)

If you resented it, then you are lying to yourself. To be offended by something, you have to accept it as true AND not like that about yourself. If you don't accept it as true, you can't be offended. If someone called me fat, I would just laugh (I've always been underweight). If someone called me skinny, I could possibly be offended. I don't really like that about myself.

If someone called me a gook though, I wouldn't be offended. It is technically true (I'm Asian), but I'm proud of being Asian, so the racial slur doesn't offend me.

You'll find that is always true when you are offended. It means you believe what they said was true AND you don't like that about yourself.

So I'll add a question. Why do you choose a lifestyle that you resent?

Why you sanctimonious know it all. You don't know a frickin thing about
me. You are the kind of person who I used to hate in high school.

My friend, think whatever the hell you want. I love my life.

You, on the other hand, will NEVER be on my Christmas list.

How DARE YOU tell me what I like and don't like.

How DARE YOU. If you were standing in my home right now I'd slap you
      right across the face.

I don't know what your culture is like where you come from, but in my
country people who presume to tell us how we feel about our own lives
get slugged. We just don't do that in this country. At least not where I
      come from.

      Again, HOW DARE YOU.

Have you ever thought that someone doesn't want the same lifestyle as you?

I think Steven loves what he does and enjoys his life. Who are you to say he is not enjoying his life?

Donald Trump works most of the time. Would you say he doesn't enjoy his life. I think you need to get off your high horse and think about how to better talk to people. Maybe your leisure lifstyle has destroyed your ability to communicate with others. I would also like to state just because you say you are living the 2 hour work week doesn't make it true. All we know you can be full of bs trying to set yourself up for a new offer.

I do find your tone to Steven very rude.

Thomas, you should have seen the steam coming out of my ears.

You know, if somebody replies that they'd never work these hours and
that my life is not for them, I'd say, fine. It isn't for everybody and I'd
be cool with that. But to tell me that I'm miserable? How DARE he!

Steven, he is probably some guy who works 60 hours a week at McDonalds and wants to pretend he is something else.

I also wanted to add. I enjoy what I do. I enjoy creating products and dealing with most people. I don't like to watch much television and like to learn. If I am sitting at home than why not work compared to sitting in front of the brain drain they call tv.

Great post! I think this is the answer to anyone who says they can make money with no work on the internet. It IS work! But it's also a lot of fun for anyone who really enjoys the work. IM can give one a quality of life, but it's not *easy* or *quick*.

I'd like to see other successful marketers describe their days. It would give us all a point of reference that would be very useful.

Stacy, I've tried to get other marketers to share their days with me, really
I have. But most are very closed mouthed about. I'm not knocking anybody
for being that way. I'm just stating a fact. I could make guesses as to why,
but that's all they would be...guesses, and because of that, I won't.

I really am very curious as to what somebody's day is like who only works
2 hours a day and makes 6 or even 7 figures a year. I am sure they have
to do either a lot of outsourcing or have VAs helping out. Or maybe they
put in the hard work years ago and now all their sites are so high up the
search engines that all they have to do is sit back and watch the sales
              come in.

              I don't know, and there I go doing what I said I wouldn't...guessing.

Anyway, I'm all for others sharing their days with the members.

I think we can ALL learn something from them.

Thanks for sharing your daily schedule. It helpful to a lot of us to see a great way to plan our day and get work accomplished. To see exactly why you are so successful at this. Gives us ideas.

You make a good full time income doing this. You are your own boss. You don't need a day job or awful supervisor. No commute. You are in control of your own life. You work when you want to.

I think that is the essence of what most of us are looking for with any home business?

Do you have to work hard to have any successful business? I think so at least until you outsource work.

If you worked that many hours a week at a job... I would call you a workaholic.
Working that many hours for yourself is totally different. A lot of the time it doesn't even feel like work. Especially when you see those incoming sales. It keeps me going.

    Hey Steve,

I sent you a PM a few days ago telling you how much I appreciate your candid posts about what you do, and how you do it. This is valuable information; it is the reader's choice to accept or reject any or all of it. It is also an unfortunate choice to be judgemental about your lifestyle too.

I also work very hard for many hours out of the day. I personally find, however, that if I do not keep my life in balance with other activities, exercise, hobbies, football games, etc., that my brain simply goes into hyperdrive and my productivity drops way off. I get my best 'stuff' during my downtime. Then I drop what I'm doing, run for my laptop, and resume working.

Whether any of us chooses to work 26 hours a day or not, the lesson I personally learned from your OP was to organize and structure your day doing the specific tasks each day, every day, that pay the bills. I'm going to do the same organizational analysis of my work day, starting....well, sometime soon. :-))

Steve, thank you very much for sharing this type of information with us as a group, and I apologize for the behavior of a few who lurk here.

Whoa and it all started out so sweet and innocent!

    My father always says:

"Never argue with an idiot, they'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience"

Seems like a lot of work SW and as stated if you enjoy it more power to you mate. Thats what its all about and youve made a success out of yourself with that exact schedule.

Mike, your father is a very wise man. That is a killer quote. I have to

    Ahh Steve,

Let it go. You made a great post and I thank you for it.

I appreciate the fact that you love what you do and are happy doing it. Since you sound like your are a bit older, I can relate to what you are saying about the balance in your life with work an family.

The important thing is it's your life and you live it as you choose. Happiness becomes relative in comparison to fulfillment. If your life is full and complete, then you are happy.

Once again, thanks for the inspirational post.

    Thanks,

    John

    Thank you Steven,
Your posts are an inspiration to a lot of people.
I spend a lot of hours every day eaking (sp?) out my meager living.
I look forward to the day I can make $369.86 a day, even if I have to work 7 days a week to do it.

HOWEVER, after I get there, I think I'll try to slow down a little. I'm getting older and could use some slack time LOL

As I have previously said, Steven is one of the posters on here whose messages are to be absorbed without a sense of hesitation. As a relative newcomer to the world of IM, it is easy, as many of you well know, to become overwhelmed with the complexities (perceived or real) and to suffer from information overload. This situation then leads to a sense of frustration and, following the odd false start or two, to a feeling of doubt.

At this point this forum can either be a shining light or a source of further frustration. However, as you go forward you learn to separate the wheat from the chaff and a significant part of this learning curve involves the ability to read "between the posts", to view the interactions between senior warriors and to make the correct assumptions.

Which is a long winded way to say thank you for posting - as a lot of newcomers here will be indeed heartened to see that "it" can indeed be done!

Nigel, sure it can be done, and a lot easier than the way I am currently
doing it now. Like I said, my life isn't for everybody, but I enjoy it. Work
keeps me sane. I can't just sit around and watch TV or go out shopping.
I do this because I enjoy it. But by all means, if people can find a better
way, do it. If you don't want to work and have the money to outsource
everything, all you really need to do is the niche research. Find out what
people want, identify the problem, come up with a solution and then go
hire a bunch of people to create it for you. It's really that simple.

Not sure if this is a good time to post this or not, but I just wanted to say that I read
5:30 PM - 10:30 PM - This is my "me" time. What I mean by me time is
that I spend this time thinking of new ideas. Maybe something comes up
that I want to work on. This is the time I usually spend for doing niche
research. Lately I've been doing a lot of it. My frustration is that I come
up with so many ideas that I don't have the time to do them.
and I feel your frustration. But more importantly, I'm here for you. Whenever you have any extra ideas that just have to be acted upon, I want you to think of stanwyck. Just send me a pm and I'll take care of 'em.

By the by, thank you for writing this. It was very helpful.

I just had to step in to say that I agree with many of you out there...

Earning a living online is something I enjoy. Since I am a young guy at 23, I do have a wife and a 1 year old daughter that I dedicate a lot of my time to. I work on my business late at night, because that is when my ideas are red hot and ready to be put to work.

Obviously, everyone has different priorities. If I was nearing retirement and my daughter was fully grown and moved out of the house, I would probably have my priorities shifted from what they are now. As life goes on, you make adjustments to fit the priorities your life requires.

For now, my focus is to grow my online business so I can become more flexible and spend more time with my family.

Think about corporate big wigs. Those people are never home, and work like crazy. When you have to run your own ship, it comes with more responsibilities. It requires people who have an incredible amount of determination and patience, as well as a fair amount of strength.

The internet business world is no different than physical businesses that are out there today.

As for the people who cannot handle running their own ship, they should go work for someone else, where they can have a set schedule, but sacrifice their freedom, as well as knowing that they are working hard to make someone else rich.

And I know that not everyone can afford to quit their day jobs. I'm not saying those people are incapable of running a business at all, but what I am saying is that there is some element of sacrifice needed in order to run a successful business online (or any business at that). If you can't make those sacrifices, then you will always remain at the same level.

    Just my 2 cents...

Michael, let me tell you something I rarely get...bored.

If I don't have something to do (rare) I find something to do. That's how I
keep uncovering all these non IM niches that I've been getting into this
past year. My ultimate goal is to earn so much from them alone, that I can
"retire" from the MMO niche, not that I don't enjoy it. It's just that I am
honestly running out of ideas in this niche, which is why my major release
in 2009 will probably be my last.

Not as nasty and insulting as that one guy took it. Way too personal and judgmental. What does he care if Steve works 24 hours a day? Someone asked for Steve's schedule he was kind enough to offer it. People freaked out when they see how much work it can take--that you can't really make millions working an hour week online.

I put more hours now than I did in my corporate America job but the main difference is that I enjoy what I do now. Although I don't come to close to the hours Steve puts in.

Steve got to where he his now through hard work not through JV's or piggy-backing on a guru so kudos to him. It works for him and his family and that is all that matters. Even with his schedule he's been kind enough to review a couple of my ebooks which I've always appreciated. Most folks at his level wouldn't even responded to the email.

      Thanks for sharing Steve!

This has actually been discussed here before but for some reason, the
threads keep getting deleted, so I'd rather not get into it in public. There
is nothing illegal or even unethical in what I use. It's just a lot of
marketers look down on them because they don't understand them. I'm
talking about things like Traffic Exchanges, Safelists and stuff like that.
I learned how to make efficient use of them so to me, they're not
worthless. But most marketers don't know how because they take a
different kind of mindset. It's all about understanding your target market
and how they work within the system. I'd love to sit down and have a
2 hour conversation about what I mean, but sadly, I don't have that kind
of time. Trust me though, if you take the time to understand the mindset
of marketers who use free advertising methods that you and I wouldn't
be caught dead using because they don't work, you'd understand how to
reach these people. Ask Jon Olson, a member here. Or ask Brian Rooney,
another member here. They'll tell you the same thing. Jon makes his

It depends. If I get off my lazy arse and crank out my DNS9, I can
write an article in about 7 minutes. Even typing it out I can crank one
out in 10 minutes. I've been writing for over 30 years so that's why it's so
easy for me. Words just pour out of my head.

      Hope this helps.

The few people who have spent years bleating on about the so-called 'Internet lifestyle', where you can 'work' for five minutes a day and spend the rest of your time on the beach, have done all of us a major disservice.

They have made the concept of a work ethic anathema to many people.

There is a groundswell of opinion that if it takes work, it must be either a scam, a lie, or just a pointless replacement for a job.

The thing is that there are a lot of folks out there (and in here) who live lifestyles very much like Steven's. People who work all hours on building their business.

The thing that the critics of this supposedly workaholic state fail to understand - because they have been hynotized by the 'it won't take any work' brigade - is that those of us who do get up at 6 and 'work' through to midnight do so because to us, it isn't work at all.

I've been living a lifestyle not unlike Steven's since 2002, but I don't consider that I've done a single day's work in all that time. I spend my days doing what I love to do - and thankfully manage to make a good income as a result.

Would I change a thing? Of course not! The Internet lifestyle is not about working less, it is about loving what you do (and as a by-product, loving yourself) more.

Sounds to me as if Steven's life is just right.

I too spend a great deal of my day at the computer, Do I have to do it? Nope, but I do because I enjoy it so much.

I've just spent 2 weeks in Cape Verde (got home yesterday). Fab hotel, beach and company plus the weather was heavenly.

My fave bit was when I could get online for the hour a day I allowed myself on the eyewateringly expensive internet connection at the hotel to check how my business was doing.

Sad but true lol, there are a lot of us workaholics out there

Steven - I've become a huge fan of yours since I joined this forum. I love your style dude. Very up front and no BS.

I read how you spend your day. I had two main thoughts. First I am happy for you because you clearly enjoy what you do and are your own boss. That is awesome and it is the goal of many on this forum. You are a model to us. My second thought was "I wonder if he would like to spend less time working". It was not a judgement, but something I wondered. Then I thought about what other people wrote including our rude friend.

Nobody has the right to judge. I think it's pretty obvious you love what you do. I love hanging out here and reading. It makes us all feel connected and a part of something important to us.

Here is the real test that I ask myself (and it is the same for everyone, I think). If you woke up tomorrow with $10 million in your bank account what would you do differently, i.e., how would you change the way you spend your day.

For me I think I would still run a business because I like to help people and I love to teach/learn. But I would outsource a lot of it and teach my outsource partners how to make more money themselves. That would give me enjoyment. Then I would spend more free time with my kids, wife, and learning new things that I want to learn. But for many others, they would not change a single thing. That would be their evidence that they are already living their dream!

But for anyone to assume that you are not happy with what you do is insane. I can see why you love it. Just look at how many people here would like to call you a friend.

Maybe that guy read "4 hour work week" and simply assumes that everyone's dreamline is to get away from their computer permanently.

I'm going to answer your question. If I woke up tomorrow with 10 mil, I'd
spend most of my time on my business hands on helping people because
I'd have the money to outsource all the mechanical stuff. This way I could
open up a forum, and answer all the posts myself in regard to how to do
this or that or whatever. It would be a free forum much like this one. I'd
probably also offer the opportunity to post special offers but I would do it
for free. The catch? I have to approve the offers and I'm very picky. In
a sense, I'd be endorsing the product. I would do all this for no profit.

Unfortunately, I am not yet at that place where I can basically do charity
work for IMers. That is what I am working towards because I believe that
everybody should have a fair chance at being successful with their
business and to that end, I would do whatever I could to help them.

That is my ultimate goal and I hope someday to get there.

Point is, as you can see, I'd still be working just as hard if not harder, only
at different things because they would make more of a difference in
people's lives. For now, I still have to pay bills, so I can't be so altruistic.

      That day will come.

    Hi Steven,

Do you have a product that goes into depth about your business operation? Such as where you distribute your articles, whether you distribute them manually or by using a distribution service, some of the tools you use, how you generate leads, etc.

If so, give me the link. If not, put me first in line for it when you develop it.

Paul, in March of 2009, I'm going to be releasing the product I've always
wanted to make. It is going to leave no stone unturned. It will contain
a workbook, videos, DVDs, the whole 9 yards covering just about everything
you could possibly want to know. I figure it's going to take me about 5 to 6
      months to develop it.

It's going to be a limited release though. Since it will be a physical product,
there are only so many I'm going to make. And no, it won't be cheap. It's
going to be ONLY for very serious people and I do mean ONLY.

I get too many folks right now who buy my products and quite honestly,
do nothing with them, which is why the PM I got earlier from somebody
here was so refreshing. I don't know what product it was (he hasn't gotten
back to me yet) but he said he made over $1,000 already because of it.

It's stuff like that, that makes me realize that I'm not wasting my time
trying to help others because sometimes I feel like I am, especially when I
get emails like "I've been doing this for 3 days and haven't made any money yet.
Can I have a refund." Makes me wonder if I'm just beating my head against
      a stone wall.

But then folks here tell me I've helped and it gives me the strength to keep
going. Yes, believe it or not, if I knew for a fact that none of my products
were really helping anyone, I'd get out of the business TODAY. I can't
sell stuff just for the sake of selling it. I can make just as nice a living
outside of the MMO niche (which I've already started) and don't need to
be frustrated because I'm not helping anyone earn an income online, if
indeed that is the case. So far, at least from a few folks, it appears that
I am doing some good. So I'll keep at.

But the day is coming when the MMO niche is going to be history for me.

There are many reasons I feel that way, but I won't get into them here.

    Steven,

The funny thing is that if you were 'retired' and spent the same amount of time at your 'hobby' - whether it was painting or flyfishing or whatever - everyone would envy you - and I am sure Diego would think you a happy man with a fulfilling life.

What difference does it make how you spend your time? It's YOUR time, and honestly, the only difference between 'work' and 'hobby' or 'vacation' is how you PERSONALLY define them in your own life.

I work the same kind of hours, and love my life! Most people take vacations to get away from their work - I never feel that need! I take vacations to see new things, and have new experiences with my loved ones - but never because I "NEED" to get away from work.

And boredom? Never happens - and never will - too many great things to do every day!

You are doing what you want, and with a goal in mind that makes every moment of today worthwhile.

Kudos to you and if Diego is still watching - raspberries to you! You sound like someone very miserable in their own life!

I have no daily schedule. It depends on the day. I make well over 7 figures (almost eight) and I never was a workaholic although I do remember putting in 2 or 3 hours per day on a business after consulting for 6 hours the same day. I never did that two days in a row though.

And I never put work ahead of family, friends or even sports. A balanced lifestyle has always been important to me although not every day. Most days are imbalanced in some way, but if you average it out over a month or so, the time I spend with family, work, charity, recreation, spiritual things, self improvement, learning, etc roughly reflects my personal values in a balanced way.

When I'm actively building a business, I spend about 2 hours per week on it. The activities in those two hours depend on the phase of the business. Obviously the first step is to hire. The 2nd step is to communicate the vision to those you hire and to get them working on the systems to make it happen. Once the systems are in place, more hiring takes place, but they are generally the ones doing that hiring.

I did recently do something different and purchased an existing business. That was only a little different. It had systems in place, but my vision was a little different. The same steps applied except that the team I hired was tasked with making changes to an existing system and changes to personnel instead of hiring brand new personnel and creating a brand new system.

If you rule out all trading hours for money tasks, those are really the only tasks left. You come up with the vision. You hire others who can fulfill that vision. You communicate that vision to them. Then you have them create the systems and hire others.

That's how every successful business owner I know does it. I know a few workaholics who are millionaires. Although they are generally proud of being workaholics and would never be upset if I pointed out that their lifestyle reflected that their values were work over everything else. They know that and they thrive on that.

Even they don't perform day-to-day procedures though unless it is one time to troubleshoot why something isn't working or something like that. I didn't understand why someone would do that.

Sorry I assumed that you were proud of what you did and asked some offensive questions about how it reflected your life values. You were so boisterous, I thought for sure that you would have some good answers for why your life is all work. Every other workaholic I know does. Even the ones who jumped in here to defend you had their justifications.

I had no idea it would offend you. Once it did offend you and I pointed out that your offence showed that you hated what you do, I thought you would do what others in that situation in my life have always done... said "oh crap... what have I done?" and thought about why they are doing what they are doing.

That's what all successful people I deal with do. I'm sorry if I upset you though. You have every right to do whatever you want with your life for whatever reasons and also have every right to withhold the reasons you do what you do.

I thought you were inviting questions about your motivations when you shared. My bad.

Yawn, maybe you should start your own thread instead of trying to make this thread about you.

I think when someone says my bad then they are trying to show their sorrow. To me I thought his original Posts were a little bit on the offensive and arrogant side. I think if he would have worded his Posts with a little more tact I think me as well as many others would probably agree. Nothing against the original Poster for he has provided incredible insights into IM. But personally, I just know there are others who I would rather strive to emulate. Those who learn to work effectively and efficiently and learn to work in a way where quality outdoes quantity. Making Money is great and it is a necessity evil in the World we live in. But I come from the philosophy that you make your money and "get the hell out of dodge" . Get your money and go on to the more important things at the end of the day like God,Family, and friends etc...
That being said I won't sit here and say just because someone works 18 hrs or so a day he is a miserable , sad person. Its ALL relative. And its a matter of how much enrichment the OP gets from this. And obviously he does gets lots of fullfillment And in the end thats all that matters ! No one can argue against that ! It would be like me saying someone who spends weekend after weekend hunting in the woods trying to kill Bambi is the biggest waste of time and energy. And those same people might think my Frisbee Golf playing every the weekend is the dumbest , silliest little game. Its what ever floats your Boat !!

Diego - here is the deal.

    1. You came in with a great deal of arrogance and making assumptions and value judgements.

    2. You got off on the wrong foot with everyone (duh)

    3. If you haven't noticed all of your posts in this thread have been deleted.

    4. Now you are back and although you may be talking about your 'day', you make several more offensive, arrogant comments.

    5. Now you are whining in a report that Tom is 'picking a fight'.

    6. GET A MAJOR CLUE: You are off on the wrong foot again.

    7. Now I will arrogantly advise you and make assumptions that you will listen to my advice.

Use some of your big bucks for some sort of counseling? For instance inter-personal communications? maybe conflict resolution?

    8. You are exhibiting severe troll syndrome here. I would think that would be beneath someone as all-knowing and wise as you think you are.

See if they have counseling for that - it may be called obsessive need to disrupt?

    9. YOU need to stop what YOU have started here. I suggest you just let it lie. (go away)

    10. Next time think before you speak - you know the one about 'it is not what you say but how you say it'? I hope you will condescend to consider what I am saying to you and not ASSUME people can't see through you.

JB goes by Diego these days, at least that's what the emails I used to get from him say. Supposedly he is living in Costa Rica, which explains the Diego part. That was probably the name of a taxi driver he used once, lol.

If you, as knowledgeable and disciplined as you are, has an income
of "only" $11,000 per month, then it makes me laugh at these wanna
be guru's trying to sell their system promising $5K - $10K per week.
Why does it make you laugh? It doesn't matter how "knowledgeable and disciplined" you are if you insist on wasting time engaging in activities that produce little return for the time invested. Stephen makes "only $11,000 per month" because he spends so much time on methods that only produce $11,000 a month. Bill Gates is brilliant, but he wouldn't be a billionaire if he spent his time digging ditches. It's no different in this business.

Want to make $5K-$10K a week? Stop doing the things that limit you to $2k-$3k a week.

Hi Steve. Thanks for the insight to what the days work schedule for a successful and much respected IM expert.

It is not the kind of schedule I'd like to have for myself but there this much in what you do and the way you work that I can learn from to improve.

No matter which way you want to work, there is always plenty of good changes that can be made and room to improve. You are a good example and source of inspiration.

    Steven,
I think we need more posts like yours so newbies would get the stars out of their eyes and understand that to be successful means work!
Who wouldn't enjoy your income? If the work you do is required for the income you make, then kudos to you for being so disciplined.
Too bad you can't sincerely post without somebody criticizing or psychoanalyzing.

    Steven,

Thank you for your usual honesty and candor. Truth be told, you are one of the few persons in the Internet Marketing arena whose statements I take at face value. This is why your posts are so valuable to me because I know that they are the truth unlike others out there who claim to work only 1 hour per day and make $50,000 monthly income. As a newbie I find it difficult to sort out the hype from the truth.

I do not usually answer at forums but I imagine what a great loss for me and to the Warrior Forum in general if you stopped posting just because of these discouraging remarks. If this person feels happy spending his time watching the sunset then good for him because we do not have a right to impose our values on him. Conversely, this person has also no right to impose his values or his definition of happiness on others.

I do not know about the opinions of other Warriors, but for me, Steven, by his sacrifice on his time, has made an incomparably better impact on my life here in Philippines than this other person watching the sunset in his backyard. Steven did great service to other people like me, he gave part of himself to others while this person is living only for himself. Now tell me whose life is more worthwhile...

    Hi Steven,

Thanks for posting this. I've always taken you for a hard worker - your work ethic blows me away - not to mention your focus.

I haven't read any of the replies, nor do I intend to. It doesn't matter to me if others approve or not of your life or work style, as long as you enjoy what you're doing.

    You're an inspiration. Thanks.

    God bless,

There seems to be very little family time...NO time with friends...and NO time for hobbies, activities, and other fun things.

But like I said...if a schedule like that TRULY makes you happy...then that's awesome man...but it just seems like your missing out on some of the best things in life.

If you think deep down...real hard...and ask yourself what a perfect day in your life would look like... Is it REALLY working 15 hours a day? If so, that's great, but man it seems like your missing out.

For somebody who doesn't want to judge, you're sure making it sound like
I must be miserable as hell.

It's okay. You know, Diego was right about one thing. Why should I give
a frick what anybody thinks of my life? I love it and that's all that matters.

I could try to explain why, but it's not worth me taking the time. Let me
just say if I didn't do what I'm doing now, I'd probably go crazy.

In other words, I thank God every single day for the life I have.

Guys like Diego Norte always seem to assume that what makes THEM happy makes everyone happy; and if they aren't having a "balanced life" as defined by THEM then they can't understand how someone could be happy. That's faulty logic anyway you slice it.

Look, I've met happy workaholics, I've met miserable ones. I've met happy, fulfilled millionaires and have met unhappy ones. What makes a person happy and fulfilled is different for everyone. Let's take someone like Warren Buffet who doesn't haven't to work if he doesn't want to (it's been true for DECADES), but WHY does he work?

Because he LOVES it. I think that simple thought escapes some people.

I think Diego has a chip on his shoulder.

          Steve, ROCK on man.

From what I understand Steve loves writing, its a passion for him. I would rather do what I'm passionate about for 15 hours a day then do something that is considered work for 2 hours. Doing what your passionate about gives you a sense of accomplishment.

Maybe the ones that only want to do what they do for a couple hours a week should find something they enjoy doing.

Steven, that's a grueling schedule. It does make the time pass more quickly, though, as the day probably passes by in a blur. To me, sitting at the beach for an hour is pure torture because I get bored out of my mind after about 10 minutes (except for that time when the girl's college volleyball came to practice), but that's me.

For the sake of all those people that insist on believing anyone who is truly and consistently successful in their careers and life goals is just Lucky ....

I guess its the old story...

The harder you work, the Luckier you get!

As a fellow work-a-holic, I also believe I am only truly happy when I am creating, achieving, sharing etc. as it gives my life more of a sense of purpose...

I cant even begin to comprehend the life of people who sit in front of a television for 4-8 hours a day and just veg out....

Even when I used to be working in full-time jobs, even when I ran my own business site offices and staff, I would never come home and just watch TV all night ...

and anyone who does, how can they complain that life isnt as good to them as the other 'lucky' people...?

P.S. I think the key is to find what you love to do, then you never have to 'work' another day in your life.. and building websites, squidoos, knols, and helping other people start their websites, has become a true passion for me - so working 24/7 is a pleasure for me - as I suspect it is for you.

And YES - YES - YES - outsource the stuff you dont enjoy as much, I dont know why IM are so shy about doing this... you dont mow your own lawns, or service your own cars, so let go and give someone else a job, so that you can spend your creative energy on what you are passionate about.

And as for "a clean house is a sign of a broken computer" - in my house its a sign of a good housekeeper!

Thanks for sharing your schedule with us.

It's funny because just a week ago I was searching the forum and Google trying to find a post with your daily schedule. (I had read a previous thread to this one from a while back) I never did find it.

I'm trying to learn to increase my self-discpline and know that you are a pro at getting things done.

So thanks for posting a more recent version of what you do.

    Steve,

Just want to thank you for all the sharing you do. It's impressive to see the enormous amount of respect and warmth expressed in this forum.

I just returned to the Warriors Forum after a few years of not participating, only to discover that my original membership had been deleted, so I'm sort of a retread newbie. And already I appreciate your posts - and also your willingness to defend yourself from cheap inuendo.

Some people will read your work schedule and it'll make them feel threatened. That's just the way it is. You're not the target. The other person's sense of inadequacy is probably what's really going on. Just let it slide man. It's clear that the people who actually count all admire you.

Cheers from warm and smiling Thailand,

I have a confession to make. I've stopped checking my opt ins per day
because at this point in time, it's almost a moot point. They regularly come
in now from all the content I have all over the Internet, so I focus less on
stat checking and more on working.

Once a month, I'll head over to Aweber and see what I did for the month.
Off the top of my head, I honestly don't know what the stats are right now.
I'll check on Dec 1 and if this thread is still here, I'll give you a ballpark
figure then. I have a number of lists too so the number per may not be so
large, but the overall number adds up quickly.

I'm sorry that this thread went in a direction that was ultimately offensive to Steven, but on the other hand, I'm kind of glad that it did for selfish reasons, because it allowed me to make an unusual discovery about myself.

Steven does what he does because he loves it. Most of you guys obviously love this business also.

    But I don't.

    And that's the problem.

I've always been vaguely aware of that fact, but this thread really crystallized it for me. I've always wondered why I can never get myself to put in the number of hours per day that are required to make "big money" in this industry.

I just don't enjoy doing IM all that much. I do it because I still make more money doing this then all the other jobs I've had in my life that I also didn't enjoy, and I'm not trained to do anything else that will pay the bills.

So no happy ending for me, but at least I now fully understand why I struggle in this business even though I know enough to do very well. For that new knowledge, I am grateful and thank Steven for his post.

    Mike,

A few people seem to be feeling like you lately. Maybe it's the time of year?

Perhaps you just need to re-focus and try and create something that you're genuinely passionate about. Use IM as a vehicle, not a destination.

I don't really know you or your business, but just food for thought.

    =======

On another note, I don't really understand why everyone got so upset at the guy who said Steven was a workaholic.

Well, I kind of can. He was a bit arrogant when he said it. But this is the 'net. Things can easily get misunderstood.

I guess we're not seeing the full picture of Steve's life. He said things come up. I assume that if and when his daughter comes home from College he hangs out with her a fair bit, etc.

But what I am getting at is that I think his core argument was valid - that we should make sure we don't lose sight of the whole reason we get into this game in the first place.

I'm not presuming to know anything about Steven's life, by the way, or directing these statements at him. They were just general musings.

Thank you for this thread, Steven.

I've always been a workaholic and work full time as a nurse (nearly 30 years). I don't see it as a negative at all. I'm often the only one with my head above water when things get rough financially.

My kids are all nearly grown and are either working and/or going to school full time or out with thier friends. I often come home to an empty house and can work as long as I want (it's never long enough LOL). My family and friends all work and have lives, too. We get together and have fun when we can, but it's rarely MY schedule that prevents us from spending time together even though I work more than many of them.

I love working. It's fun. I also love having money to spend on my family and friends. That hasn't changed since I was a teenager.

Working online just means I can retire from nursing soon and travel more, but I doubt my working will ever end.

People used to try to make me feel guilty for working so much, but after being home alone and bored while my kids were at school/work/with friends, I decided to ignore other people's opinions.

I have hobbies, friends, "me" time, and other things in my life besides work. Work keeps me sane, though. Trust me.

You have a lot of drive Steve, the economy needs more leaders like this to take action into their own hands instead of depending on a pay check. Thats not how this country was built but that's how many will fall is by depending on others to deliver a income.

To all of those people out there judging Steve's workaholic lifestyle, did you not hear those figures he projected? He just told us how his work schedule goes with the income he generates off his success, so if he wanted too anytime of the day he could up and leave his job and go out to anything he feels like doing. When he comes back he's still employed and more than likely made a nice chunk of change as well.

    Keep it up Steve

I mean, my friends that sit around watching TV all day think I'm dedicated, but compared to you I feel like I'm a total slacker :p

My schedual is pretty different from yours. I generally go from about 10 in the morning till 9 at night in a pattern of 90 minutes on, 30 minutes off, 90 minutes on, 30 minutes off.

So go for a longer period of time but get 3 hours or so of breaks.
