Local SEO involves optimizing your website or online business for a local audience. Start by submitting your site and your company's contact details to local business directories. Ask your customers to write reviews on Yelp and other similar sites. Add your business name and contact information to Google Places, Yahoo Places, and Bing Local. Try to get relevant links from authoritative sites in your niche. For example, you can try to obtain a link from your local chamber of commerce.

  Local SEO in a nutshell:
  
  1) Find a local brick & mortar client who lacks a web presence.
  
  2) Sell your services to said client for $$$. This could be building a website for them, building social media publicity, getting them ranked in Google's local (Places) results.
  
  3) Profit.

Hamzidosh,

Mrsvirtualassistant has touched on all the right points. One thing that I would add is to find some localized keywords for the region that is being targeted. For example if the business was a drycleaner in Detroit, MI you might target words like dry cleaning Detroit.

If you are targeting keywords which are city based then you can use local SEO services which include local directories, citation and local promotion techniques so you can better rank locally.

Local SEO targeting a specific location. Local SEO mainly focus on Google Place. But you still need to work on your Organic SEO to be successful on Local SEO.
