I think that site has survived the Panda and Penguin's might, that's why it stayed there for 2 years.

I don't think this was a thread about any EMD update...

I always wanted to own one of those one page websites that
gets tons of traffic. Just like that one.

Anyone here old enough to remember hamster dance? I'm sure
there are tons of these sites around, high PR, etc.

One of my all time favorites is onlineclock.net
        Ranks #1, PR5

These sites serve a purpose, even if some are jokes.

The EMD update had little to do with EMD's. There's a difference
between a gobblydeegook EMD and an "EMD."

Really? And you call yourself an "SEO Mastermind"?

Content has nothing to do with PR. Incoming links are what gives a site its PR.

If the links remain, the PR will remain.

Yes, I run an SEO company and also i understand PR has nothing to do with content and it will remain there as long as links are there.

Moreover, I talked about SERP not PR

When did I ever say anything about PR? PR has nothing to do with ranking. It's still easy to rank sites with a ton of spam links and 301 redirects but these sites are taken out in panda and penguin refreshes that happen every month. Also I think this site won't stay at this position for even 2-3 days. Whenever such a site is shared on forums, a manual review is done and often the site is gone. Google guys watch these forums

Google is too busy to watch these forums.

However, the site will drop because nothing with bad content will stay forever. Nuff said.

Google keeps an eye on SEO services and discussions that are made on SEO forums. It's pretty obvious; if you owned a system and there was a forum dedicated to gaming your system, won't you keep an eye on it?

Somewhere in my morning daze the title and OP got merged together. I thought your comment was referring to the PR.

I'm not so sure the rankings will change though. Limited content does not trigger the Panda filter. I haven't looked too closely at the links, but the few I looked at didn't look real spammy.

If the links are bad though, it will get caught up in a Penguin update at some point.

But again, limited content does not mean a site cannot rank.

But there are hundreds and thousands of seo forums. And anyone who knows whats what doesnt publicly share their own sites. Why does Google need to watch them then? Idk I fail to see the connection to why they would want to.... Maybe im just stupid.

They do not need to watch every forum. Just the most popular ones.

Things being discussed on those smaller fringe forums really are no different than things being talked about here.

Google doesn't need people to publicly share their sites, although plenty of people do here through their forum signature. They just can keep track of popular trends, techniques, spam that people are using.

Look at the link tactics that Google has squashed in the last few years...

Linkwheels (not pyramids, trees, etc. The original wheel.)
                Forum profile links
                Public blog networks

All were hugely popular topics here and on other forums at one time.

There are not hundreds of thousands of active SEO forums. There are just 4-5 good active SEO forums where real ranking tactics are discussed.
And why wouldn't Google watch them? If there is a shady method to game the algo, Google would want to know it and fix it! 301 redirects, blog networks worked great a few months before; how do you think Google caught up?
Do you know why blog networks stopped giving reports? Because Google employees were buying those links and banning those networks! Even the networks that used 100% unique content, different IPs and did absolutely no interlinking were hit. Why ? Cuz the big G is watching !

theres no longer any question that they do - Matt Cutts tweeted about a forum post on traffic planet after the rental networks were taken down

                https://twitter.com/mattcutts/status/180392083427823616

Why wouldn't the anti spam team be watching what the spam team is doing. In sports they call that a scouting report

which is why I expect tiered link building to be the next target. Its all "spammers" and blasters now talk about

Even more recently than that ..there was a guy here that claimed "The only footprint is Wordpress" in promoting his network. Cutts had to pick that up from this forum or one of the other forums he was pushing it on. Actually, here's the thread: http://www.warriorforum.com/adsense-...wordpress.html

I agree with you on limited content. I'm saying in context of this particular site. I've seen sites like these before. They generally vanish from Serps in 4-5 days.

Exactly! I can't remember how many times I've tried to explain to people in other threads that they don't have to have 1,000 words of text for the sake of SEO. People still think they need to load up a page with text, they look at sites like wiki that always rank first page & assume it's all that text, what they don't look at is the links that are doing most of the work (not necessarily external links either).

I've been ranking my own low text count pages for years, has nothing to do with an algo. update.

That's why a lot of look up services that have as much content as the Google homepage rank well.

For example, What WordPress Theme Is That? has virtually no text on the homepage and it ranks very well.

The problem with threads like these is that the lessons learned from the examples rarely translates into real world money sites

The term gets less than 800 searches a month globally and is not a phrase that leads to direct monetization so the competition is low.

"Search engine" gets 110,000 searches a month. Sites like Bing, DuckDuckGo, and DogPile are on page one with no real content.

I'm not advocating people build websites with little or no content. Just pointing out that you can do just fine without the BS 1000-word article on your front page.

I should and was about to add "for the average Imer" and I agree on the 1,000 word article but none of those examples mirror where the average Imer is at. Those companies have public relations departments and get mad tech blog coverage with authority links that Imers don't get.

Even the serp in question in this thread - its a novelty site - Its link bait for the cause and its intentional brevity and to the point statement is meant to highlight that so its dubious it would work beans for a commercial site. Its great linkbait though.

The only take away the average Imer is going to get from this is that they can put up even less content and slap it with the kinds of links that most imers get and get tanked or rank for non competitive terms with no real monetary value.

Its very similar to the "click here" example people use to use with Adobe. The big problem is it was completely non duplicable to rank for a term the way Adobe ranks for click here. Adobe ranked because they own and programmed the document platform used across the world.

Panda will not hurt the site. Panda has to do with bad content, not limited content. If Panda hurt sites with limited content, then google.com would be screwed.

Really I doubt the owner of that site (link in OP) is trying to monetize, they have some other agenda to flame homeopathy.

The owner of that site is (Merseyside Skeptics Society) & owns the following sites:
    • http://www.howdoeshomeopathywork.com/

From what I see, the goal is to get the public stirred up.

I imagine they have more sites than the 3 listed above.

Global is a false number unless they rank all 161 countries/SERPs, doubtful they're ranking in all countries.

The keyword itself must not be too popular with advertisers, all I see is Netflix & Hulu in paid search (no advertisers in the sidebar).

If the traffic is actually 6,600 targeted traffic & you have a way to monetize the traffic, sure it's a decent keyword.

This EMD site crushed panda, penguin and humingbird updates.

Lesson learned, Content is not king, quality back link and relevancy is the key. For that search term it's still at #1 on serp.

    Sorry for the necro.

Usually I frown upon people pumping year old threads, but in this case, I'm grateful.

It's interesting to see that this has withstood the "ruthless Google updates", with just a handful of words.

What are the experts take on this? EMDs still strong?

LOL, one year later the site is still there with a whole bunch of crappy links like blog comments that the owner placed him self.

A lot of it seems to come from relevant domains though, maybe that's the key?

This website is a joke... No matter if it has PR0 or PR8... It won't help his owner to sell anything! It's not even worth the time to build those backlinks. I saw it's live since 2010... I can't understand the reason to create it!

Thousands of new comers can learn from it and these types of things may help to understand new Google updates, that gonna come. Most probably it was to test op's concern and than he moved to bigger projects.

      - is not it make enough reasons?

To ensure that site doesn't get a penguin penalty, they should dilute their exact match anchor text to 1 part in 6.02214 --10^23
