Serious Web Developers should not be without this amazing tool. Excerpt from the Firebug site..
"Firebug integrates with Firefox to put a wealth of web development tools at your fingertips while you browse. You can edit, debug, and monitor CSS, HTML, and JavaScript live in any web page."
That means you can surf to almost any site, open FireBug, point to any element on the page with your mouse, and instantly see the code (CSS, HTML, JAVA, etc.) for the element of the actual page! Not the same as View/Source in your browser! Firebug goes deep!!
How does this help you - the web developer?
Real World Example.. I am a full-time webmaster for a number of Internet Marketers. One of my clients asked me to fix a broken feature in Joomla (CMS) / FireBoard (Forum) in the middle of an important soft launch. My problem was I did not know the exact PHP page to recode. This is one of the most difficult and time consuming tasks a webmaster struggles with on an almost daily basis. A task like that is normally reserved for Aplus Webmasters! Solution.. Firebug pointed me directly to the PHP page in 1 second! The problem was fixed in less than 10 minutes!! My client sent me a very sweet PayPal Bonus
Another Real World Example.. During the soft launch (above) one of my client's members noticed the fix and asked about it because he had a similar problem with his own site. My client asked me if I would look into it for his long standing member. Firebug to the rescue! Once again Firebug pointed me directly to the problem page. Actually in this case it was two different pages and the problem was fixed in about 20 minutes. The member had previously asked and paid for three different webmasters to fix the problem without success! Now I have a brand new client!
All of that in the past 24 hours! One existing happy client (did I mention the bonus) AND one new client! BTW, my retainer fee is $100 monthly. Do the math
Do you have your own website, web application, WordPress, Joomla, theme, etc., and need to find the code/page to create a optin form, place a specific image, etc? Firebug is your friend
Firebug is very easy to use and very easy to install as a FireFox plugin. Worth a look IMHO.
