I'm not quite sure what you are saying but it sounds like you are wondering if you change themes if it will stop your website from working. If that is your question then the answer is no. You can change themes all day long. The only thing you have to be careful with is your plug-ins. Some are setup for a particular theme. If that is not what you meant I'm sorry.

Damn i didn't understand anything but I think that you are trying to tell us that you are trying to edit something on your WordPress site from your fantastico page which I really can't understand. Can you please tell us if you are trying to post something in your WordPress blog, or you are trying to do something on your theme, or maybe you are trying to install new WordPress blog from fantastico?

What version of WP are you using?

In versions prior to 2.7 you could change the theme and access it by going to www.yourdomain.com/index.php to see your changes.

That changed with 2.7... you will see your index.html page from your previous design if you choose that theme.

You could temporarily rename you primary index.html so you have access to the WP homepage.

    Hope this is clear.

If you activate the theme it will make the theme live for all visitors. You can edit the theme with the theme editor, but you won't be able to view the changes until you view the theme live. My recommendations are to either create a subdomain and install another wordpress installation there to test/edit and then when you are done, FTP that theme to your computer and then upload it to your main installation....

So you would create a subdomain such as sandbox.yourdomain.com or yourdomain.com/sandbox

    Hope this helps.

You can try several themes without affect your Blog , but you need to use themes compatibles with your Wordpress Version and Characteristics , per example Widget Ready or any other.

Fantastico is an automated script that will install various software and scripts on your server. It should prompt you for more details, such as the location you want to install to, and other configuration parameters.

The next part of your question seems to indicate that you already used Fantastico to install WordPress. Now you are in the WordPress dashboard and want to select a new theme. In version 2.7 you get to see a preview of your theme before applying it to your blog. So if you like it, just select "activate" at the top of the preview screen. The main idea here is that your content will not be deleted, only the presentation of your content.

Please let us know if you have other questions. Thank you.

    Hey mate,

Sounds like you are asking what happens when you change themes.

It's quick and easy, and won't destroy your site. If you don't like the theme, you can always go back to what you had.

    I hope this helps,

I've got to say your question is a bit confusing but if you want to edit your theme you can edit it from the control panel of your web host (make sure you keep a copy). You can also edit the theme that you want to use on your desktop and then upload the edited theme to your wp-content/themes folder when you have finished. While you are playing around with the theme you can just activate the default theme that is automatically installed with wordpress. Upload your newly edited theme and activate it. If it is just a little edit then you could activate the t heme and edit it from Appearance/Theme Editor (but it is preferable not to do your edits like this).

    All the best

Hi all. This is the nearest thread I could find with regards to a problem I'm having with word press.

This is the second time this has happened. I started from scratch the first time but I would like to solve this issue without restarting again if possible.

I wanted to see if I could get a link to the site at the top of the page that went to the website. My blog is in a sub directory. (Energy Rings).
I went to the GENERAL SETTINGS and changed WORDPRESS ADDRESS from
      http://www.energyrings.com/blog to
      http://www.energyrings.com.

When I clicked SAVE, the template in the admin area was gone.
I clicked BACK and changed the settings back to what they were originally and saved again.
The admin template or theme was still gone.

When I go to the blog now, the Theme is gone as well.
When I try to login I get 404 page not found and the address it goes to is http://www.energyrings.com/wp-login.php

The theme I'm using is Green Light. The versin of WP is 2.7.1
I listed everything I did so maybe someone can suggest a fix. Thanks
      Isidro
