GREAT EXPECTATIONS?

Today I met with a potential supplier of goods/services for a new venture for the business.
It was my first interaction with the company and to be honest I hadn't heard of them before but I had been recommended to give them a try.
What were my expectations?
I expected whomever walked into my office would be completely up to speed on all areas of their offering and in a position to answer my questions - including the key one - COST?
After the first few minutes of polite chat we got down to business.
As the meeting progressed I was handed a glossy company brochure, no in fact I was handed two glossy brochures. Both were very relevant, high quality print and relevant to the discussion I needed to have.
HOWEVER.....When I started to ask, what in my mind were, basic yet fundamental questions I received some blank looks and a clear lack of knowledge and inability to constructively discuss the bottom line!!
Contradiction of terms and lack of understanding of the business model they were offering to supply me a service for, left me feeling completely underwhelmed.
The sales rep was actually a very pleasant individual yet he had managed to waffle himself into a situation as meeting started, following a query from myself, that exposed how little he knew or the lack of homework he had done on me or my business before he asked for the meeting.
Were my expectations met?
Well NO, however I will likely use the Glossy relevant material he left but will potentially think twice before picking up the phone to offer business to the company.
Gloss at the end of the day is just that - GLOSS.
Internet marketing is full of GLOSS however the expectations of customers goes way way beyond your gloss and if all you have is "glossy gloss" then it is time to revisit what your offering out there in the IM world.
You cannot afford to miss out on the money making model of managing, meeting and exceeding expectations. I continue to see this happening and the missed opportunity of not knowing what your customer truly expects of you will leave you way behind your competitors, who are offering similar products in the same niche as you.
The best offers, including WSO's I review, are those that exceed expectations. These are more rare but do a terrific job of obtaining genuine rave reviews and return custom, as well as creating sustainable credibility for your future launches.
If you cannot exceed your customers expectations, at the very least you have to meet them.
The world of IM may be faceless however your name, product and reputation are not!!
Tip : Set your target to EXCEED every time, the worst thing that can happen is you will definitely MEET expectations each and every time.
Thanks for reading...until next time.
