Wordpress Permalink SEO is one of those important areas of not only website design so but also, search engine optimization. Having developed more websites than we care to mention, there are two areas which more than any other, webmasters neglect. First is categories and next, the subject matter of this post - permalinks.There are a whole host of reasons they are but with permalinks in particular, it typically boils down to new webmasters not knowing its' availability within the WordPress suite and experienced webmasters - lack of understanding their importance. We often come across very well designed websites dedicated to one subject or another however, the overall link structure, which permalinks are a part of, are either absent or not set up correctly. Let it be known from experts with SEO, me in particular - many webmasters spend hours, days, weeks and even months trying to secure what they believe are great back links to their site in hopes of improving SEO (search engine optimization). Most fail to understand their internal link strategy must be developed in a way which are search engine friendly to the site's target market. Without this being the case, back links will be of little value.
Most will tell you there is a difference between backlinks and permalinks. We don't disagree with that assessment but what we do not agree that these two, although separate, are part of a larger whole structure. Failing to view and thus develop both will lead to neither being effective. Think about it like a bodybuilder. When I was a child, I loved to watch bodybuilding competitions and in particular, Mr. Olympia. For those too young to remember, this is where former Govenor of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger, began his rise to the fame he now enjoys! Most remember him from movies however, the only way becoming a movie star became possible was from success with winning the Mr. Olympia competition a record-setting seven times. Millions who remember this particular competition or watch them today, it is hard to not notice these men (and now women) have perfectly sculpted bodies. They achieve this amazing feat by performing a training regimen which understands each muscle in the body is a part of a larger system. The results they seek can't be achieved by neglecting say, the biceps and only working on developing chest muscles. WordPress permalink and backlink SEO works the same way - any part of your link structure which is neglected will ultimately result in the underdevelopment of the rest of the website.
Getting to the permalink feature within the dashboard feature is simple - go to settings menu click on permalinks. There are then choices which must be made which if not understanding your goals, will affect site search engine performance. Before being able to choose correctly, it's critical to understand the overall theme of your site. This isn't referring to Wordpress themes or skins rather, declaring through SEO efforts, what your site is all about.
Once you understand the target market, theme, using SEO (permalinks) every page and post according to that choice! A great lesson can be learned in this area from comparing new automobile dealerships with their used sales lot counterparts. Those who sell brand-new vehicles choose a manufacturer such as Ford, GM, Toyota or other and sign exclusive distribution deals with that manufacture.
This means no other brand-new car brands can be sold on that lot. Used car dealers are much different. They are the proverbial buffet eatery of car sales - whatever your taste, they will probably be able to meet it. There is no expectation of exclusivity as manufacturers are concerned. All that is being pointed out is - like new dealerships, webmasters must choose a theme, develop a link structure and stick with THAT subject matter. Even the lightest form of search engine knowledge will point to the fact that successful web marketers focus on one product at a time and the richest of these stay with THAT product and develop it over a number of years. Many have witnessed our ultra successful search engine optimization results we've achieved and marvel that our sites, no matter how competitive the keyword market, consistently reach TOP 3 rankings quickly. For those savvy enough to view our HTML coding will notice all sites, regardless of keyword market have one thing in common - focus on a very select number of keywords.
I know those who preach the gospel of 'getting great back links' will object however, how many top search engine placements have they gotten?
