Finding a Wordpress ecommerce solutions isn't as as most make it. There are dozens of plugins which promise a great WordPress shopping cart experience for both webmasters and potential customers. The issue becomes - which of them are being truthful with such boasts? Over the years, we have found each new shopping cart plugin has advantages and disadvantages. It isn't necessary to list all available e commerce plugins for WordPress, only to say whichever you choose, it may be a little much for your needs if just launching a smaller site. There are two shopping cart experiences that can be tailored to almost any situation - S2 Member and PayPal. The great news is for those operating membership websites, S2 member and PayPal aren't mutually exclusive of one another.
S2 Member, in our humble opinion, is the greatest of all WordPress plugins and one of only a handful worth paying for. We aren't simply limiting their greatness to the fact they offer the most robust and free plugin for e-commerce and membership site needs rather, it is the most well thought out tool since WP themes.

However, the fact is most webmasters have little need for such a robust plugin and need only an e-commerce solution. Separate of S2 member, PayPal offers more flexibility than any other shopping cart solution on the Internet and further, brings world wide brand recognition unlike any other. Even S2 Member, let alone a lesser shopping cart tools, fail to bring both brand recognition as well as generally accepted online payment process as does Paypal. Whatever your need whether it be direct sales payment collection, multiple product purchasing capability, subscriptions, recurring billing or other, PayPal will meet the need! For instance, let's say you have three or more products which you are offering for purchase as separate or package deals. PayPal offers an ecommerce shopping cart solution for this very purpose. For those requiring only the purchase of one product, whether it be tangible (shipped), electronic download or even subscription agreements, a Paypal Buy Now button may be more appropriate.
Although Buy Now buttons don't hold the ability for use to purchase multiple products, they certainly have a functionality for direct marketers with smaller websites. Another valuable feature of PayPal is the flexibility to 'product test' using different price points, whether a shopping cart or Buy Now button is required.

It is amazing that many webmasters take months testing price points when such testing can easily be set utilizing multiple pages on a site at different price points and shopping cart variations. Think about it like this - there's a garden tool called a hand shovel. This tool is about 12 inches long, requires a gardner to get on their knees while using it and can only pick up about 1 cup of dirt for each swing of the tool. There is also another tool which can be used for not only gardening but also yard work in general. A spade is about 50 inches long, can pick up 20 times as much dirt as the hand shovel and is used for many more purposes than its' much smaller counter part. Refusing to use an e-commerce solution like PayPal in conjunction with multiple price testing offers on your website is like using the hand shovel rather than a spade to complete a much larger task than a hand shovel is built for.

We are simply pointing out that when choosing a solution for your payment processing needs, WordPress plugins have more drawbacks than positives. Can you think of one WordPress plugin, e-commerce solution not named Paypal? This isn't all about brand name recognition either. Paypal is dedicated to providing secure payment processing for both you and your customers. Sure, every once in a while someone who purchases something demands a refund for no other reason than 'buyer's remorse'.

Outside of a web-based company not shipping the goods or a customer not receiving them, PayPal usually takes the side of the online merchant. I guess it's safe to say after your customers payment is processed, they begins the process of protecting you and your business. One drawback of PayPal which exists with WordPress shopping cart plugins also is the holding of processed payments for 3-5 business days. With weekends not counted, this payment hold means the money you've worked so hard to receive can sometimes be held, weekends included, for up to seven days.
Why this occurs isn't hard to discern. it is a case of PayPal simply trying to verify the availability of funds because truthfully, these funds are verified at the instant payment processing occurs. This is one of the ways which PayPal earns money - holding billions of dollars in transactions each year and earning interest on it. Should you require an e-commerce solution which makes funds available in as little as 24 hours, direct merchant processing through your bank may be the best option available. However, we come back to brand name recognition. There are those who have put forth that customers don't take web businesses seriously who use PayPal.
The reasons for this mis-information are many such as only hobbyists use Paypal.

HA!HA!HA! With earnings in the hundreds of millions each quarter, rest assured serious businesses use a serious e-commerce solution called PayPal.
