All my EMD's rank better in yahoo and bing than in Google -- I think those two search engines put a lot more weight on an exact match domain than google does.

Most definitely you are right.

You should always build links to your inner pages and not just your homepage -- it looks more natural this way. Also, your inner page might rank number 1 on google...
