There are open source solutions for creating a social network but of course you would need hosting for this. If you want total control over everything that is the route to go and be set up quickly.

Keith there's also the ALinks plugin for wordpress which will allow you to create links to affiliate products based on keywords. This works great with using WP-omatic. Yes the system you describe...

Why don't you just add a WP blog to your ECommerce site. You could add it as a sub directory or put it on a subdomain. Then you could use the blog for what blogs are designed to do. e.g. site news...

There is a WP Plugin called search everything or something like that.....So when your users use the WP search on your blog it searches through both posts and pages.
